I purchased an HP Lap 17-cn0xxx online.
After charging, booting up, filling in all the profile details and updating, the screen began to flash intermittently, anywhere between from normal, to black and back to normal at a rate of anywhere from 2 to 20 times per minutes at a rate of , 1 thousand one, 1 thousand 2, 1 thousand 3.
After a couple of days I reset the laptop to factory and started over, still flashing.
I ran all the HP troubleshooters, and performed any other repair methods found online to no avail.
Example: task manager does not flash when screen flashes.... bios does not flash when screen flashes.
During the time I am typing this information, the screen has flashed 7 to 10 times.
ANY IDEAS as I cannot use this confound contraption with the screen flashing as is.
    Thanks
    B

Did you check the screen refresh rate?
Do you have latest display driver? I like Driver Booster.

I have used the regular update, which indicates I have the best driver available and the installed driver is; Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics and it states it is working properly.
Also, of the two choices, the refresh rate is 60.06

A quick story about my driver updates:
Had a i5 Toshiba Laptop, really like it, then got also a i7 Lenovo laptop, but it always had an annoying lag in response, always got the latest regular updates supplied from Lenovo, but still always slow to respond.
Then, recently ran the aforementioned Driver Booster, was shocked by how many updates were available, bit the bullet and took them all.
Shocked again, and now the i7 laptop was at least as fast as the i5 laptop...

Hi bearsound... thanks for the info... btw, I attempted to download and run the Driver Booster, however a warning popped up and said it was unsafe and would harm my computer? Thoughts

I did download with a Virus Total analysis 3/68 showing:
Generic Reputation PUA, Program.Unwanted.5065, and Win32.Application.DriverBooster.B
Cause: The program "Action Center" offers 4 optional IObit programs, not unsafe or a problem.

IObit has a bad reputation with antivirus vendors because their software installers bundle optional software downloads and that is considered adware or 'bundleware' so they get flagged. Like Eldon said above Driver Booster is safe. Just pay attention during the install and uncheck the optional software installs.

You might have to go into your antivirus and whitelist it to complete the install.
