Vale Tina Turner

I was saddened today when I heard that Tina Turner passed away in her home in Switzerland aged 83.
She overcame violence and trauma to become a superstar and was an inspiration for many other artists around the world. Her catalogue of hits is amazing and these hits and the memories of her helping others and her survival through some very tough, challenging times was an inspiration to so many people and this will be her legacy.

Duet with Aussie Jimmy Barnes

I love the Australian band, Cold Chisel. Did you know Jimmy Barnes has a brother named John Swan, who calls himself Swanee?

Alan Lancaster from Status Quo went to Australia, and formed a group called the Party Boys, in which John Swan was a member for a while.

Apparently, Tina's ex spouse Ike was a complete douche bag who beat her up. He even tried to trademark her name, for if she didn't want to continue to perform with him any more, he could 'replace' her.

 

And speaking of The Party Boys did you know Joe Walsh from The Eagles played in The Party Boys lineup for a while in the 1980s.

Yeah the cream rose to the top with Ike and Tina Turner.....Tina became an international megastar playing to sell out stadium shows and the big loser was Ike who is still a nobody????? People just remember Ike as a wife beating douchebag

Yeah. Joe was also briefly in the New Zealand reggae group, Herbs.

 

When he was in Herbs I think is when he either started or was already doing drug rehab. In many talks, Joe says being in New Zealand at that time and admitting his addictions to himself and then actually doing drug and alcohol rehab saved his life. He said that it was a very hard path at the start and he had a few relapses but the longer he went, the better things became and now he has been sober and drug free for 25 years. Joe considers that he is one of the lucky ones because he has had a second chance at life and is now determined that he will grab this opportunity with both hands and make the most of his new life. To help in the process of staying sober, Joe does talks to young people on drug and alcohol addiction topics where he openly talks about what was happening day to day in his life while addicted and now how his life has changed for the better since going clean.

 

I remember when the bassist for Herbs was in the UK. Charlie Tumahai.

He was in a group called Be Dop Deluxe, that had moderate success. He ended up having to go back to New Zealand when they found out he was an immigrant. I got to know so much about Aussie and Kiwi music from the YouTuber, nzoz1982.

He has channels covering the 60s up to the end of the 80s. So you can just replace the last two numbers with 85 or something. So that's how I know about all the best bands from those countries.

Some did chart in the UK, but Jimmy Barnes only had one hit in Britain. "Good Times" with INXS. A song originally by the Easybeats.

I just don't think UK stations play much in the way of international hits, because maybe they think nobody will take notice because they're from overseas.
