Unfortunately, I can't view your image. Can you please provide the make, model, and OS of the machine?

qsmith, below your post at the bottom right, you will see Upload a File. Click on that, find the file and then select thumbnail or full image.
The file has to be jpg/jpeg so if the iphone image is an HEIC, you have to change it to JPEG.

Yes, without doubt I can provide my computer info:

Win 7 Pro Dell Inspirion with info unavailable to me I must rely on memory and side notes on folders and on a Chromebook which is " out of date " much in the same way windows OS's get dated and become virtually useless.

So this is what I found written on post it's and recall from memory:

    Inspiron 560 Pentium (R) Dual Core E5500 CPU @ 2,8 Ghz

    8 gig RAM 64 BIT

scratch the WIN7 PRO for HOME PREMIUM
    **********************************************************************************************************

Now, attempting to follow " plodr "'s advice for :

qsmith, below your post at the bottom right, you will see Upload a File. Click on that, find the file and then
    select
    thumbnail or full image.

I will do my best basically TO LEARN whatever it is that one must do to share an image with others,
Let's see if my following instructions results in the results I set uot to accomplish.

    MAYBE?

If anyone can see this image perhaps you can please respond.

Not to sound like a total idiot but it occurs to me that in the name of " progress " that which once came very easily has now become an ordeal.

This image that said EVERYTHING that I wanted and believed NEEDED to show the experts of MG forum turned into an ordeal and I am still not sure if it is seen and if it is if there is an understanding of the problem which in my humble opinion has to do with Dell not providing a few penny CD but instead supplying me with a " partition " which I can't seem to access while the error message is present.

My own suggestion is to pull the HDD in the Dell, mount it in an external case and select whatever is important to me on that drive. Meanwhile dispose of the trouble maker.

I'm all ears for trying other things.

Thank you again. Sorry it has taken so long to do just what i've done. I'm now on my 13th day of COVID.

I have no idea why this is happening. I followed what plodr instructed and I see the file which says 0xc00000e which is the error code I'm getting and the instructions are to use the disc supplied by Dell. Dell did not supply a CD.
Can't figure out how I might access the D partition?

What extension does the file have? If it is not jpeg/jpg, it will not show here.

Yep. Your observation is so true, so true!

How are you trying to get to the D: drive? Does it not appear when you open Windows Explorer?

Unfortunately I have used Windows 3.1 and everything up to Windows 10 except Windows 7 and 8, so I'm afraid that I can't help you too much.

I will try your suggestion, however to imagine that THE ANSWER to my situation is in this forum maybe you can imagine what it is like when MURPHY is part of A PROBLEM. It means that I will have to find the perfect words and have the perfect luck IN HOPES of finding AN ANSWER that FITS or MIGHT WORK.
As I think I mentioned, under the subject of " more ways to skin a cat " I'm fairly confident that pulling the hard drive and mounting it in an external box will give me an opportunity to conduct the repair according to the instructions which have ( so far ZERO CHANCE of following and executing. If I'm understanding the message THE FIX exists in a copy of the original OS which would be on a supplied CD ) KNOWING that no such CD exists suggests to me that the only place an original COPY of the WIN 7 OS that came with this DELL back in whatever year I purchased it for DAD from Staples as a CLEARANCE purchase [ sorry if this is TMI but MAYBE others will at least understand the WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW, and maybe even the WHY? And if anyone thinks or feels that it's TMI for an old computer that only means something to me because it belonged to my EX-POW Dad who suffered thru my purchase of a LESS THAN THE BEST PC to replace the last two TOP OF THE LINE HP and DELL's that he somehow would crash and with the DELL previous to this one I spent no less than 36 hours on the phone with DELL in TAIWAN or THAILAND with a rep willing to break the rules and stick it out with me on a PC that was long out of warranty. Finally we managed to get everything needed to get that PC functioning when he decided that it was " too old " That's when he purchased a 3200.00 HP from Costco and quickly started ragging on HP " will never be a DELL "
He never crashed this Dell. A lightening strike did.

I just changed the .png to a .jpeg but I'm not sure that attempting to upload it will work. I think that the only chance that I have is to do the iPhone thing. If that works great.

As far as access the D dive the truth is I do not get an home screen that I can see or manipulate in any way.

Before I post this I want to see if I can get an image that can be uploaded. If that idea doesn't work. It's over.

Thursday: sent jpeg from iphone to moms gmail addresss. I see it there. Now to follow plodr's instruction to upload jpeg. if this doesn't work i'll just write it off to the computer gods HATE ME

OR maybe I'm dreaming: " upload file " gives me NO OBVIOUS S+CHOICE. ""SAVE IMAGE" is unclear as to where it is saved AND what it's called
I NEVER HAVE BEEN HASSLED OR HARASSED LIKE THIS BEFORE

To the best of my GUESSING ABILITY goes a HACK of some sort has changed and or disabled those ways that have always been clear and obvious. Now all of those known common ways are missing.

So lets take " upload file ": I see a file called .jpeg THIS is what it presents

    am i successful>?

    Yes, you are successful!
From what that message says, it's probably time to permanently retire the old laptop.

Congratulations on uploading the image we can now see!

The last sentence on the error screen says
The boot selection failed because a required device in inaccessible.

I'm assuming that the hard drive has a problem since I believe you only have the one hard drive in the computer. Either the hd is gone or the cable connecting it to the motherboard is loose or bad.

Open the desktop computer and replace the cable. You might just get lucky and that will fix the problem.

Late last year I fixed a problem in my WinVista computer. I had the problem for around a year. I never had the cover off of that computer before the problem arose.

I took the cover off and poked around the memory cards and then the cabling. By accident I discovered that something was wrong with the cable between the power supply and the HDD. I further isolated the problem to be between one of the pins in the white power cable and the wire going into that pin. Prolly a bad crimp. After replacing that cable I was not able to reproduce the problem.

I suspect something with your HDD, either the drive itself or the power or signals going to it. I I just wanted you to know that cable pin wiring can become intermittent. I suppose it could be the power supply itself, but I'm not into troubleshooting supplies. One of the things I did was to replace the PS but alas, that didn't help.

"PROBABLY"? HA! TY for your gentle ways!

TY plodr for hanging in their with me! The side is off. I'm checking all of the cables. There is a missing cable at the very top of the hdd but no cables that reach or match the number of pins ( 8 ) cables are stacked.

I noticed that the main cable that goes from the power supply to the motherboard was loose and in sleep mode there was an odd noise coming from inside " the box " as I call the metal case holding everything. After pushing on it the clicking sound stopped.
I decided to test the 3 cables that are connected: a blue wire from mother board to hdd terminals look like they have some corrosion on them??? The other wire on the hdd goes to the power supply which seems like a major project to replace. That said, there is a twin connector that I guess is for another hdd. Do I dare swaping it out with the one that is being used now?
Lastly, it was after a power outage that things stopped working. I booted to safe mode and did this massive number of tests; most for hdd. After about 24 hours and " no errors found " I tried booting " normal windows " and got the same exact message. I found several 'back up' CD's and something called SANDRA that my Dad purchased to " OPTIMIZE Your PC! " I'd kid Dad that until they make a CD to "OPTIMIZE" " your need to mess around with things you know nothing about. We will still need to buy a new PC once a year" That's when I realized that this was probably his master plan for buying a new PC every year or less.

I'll let you know if any of your suggestions and skeezix's suggestions work. Replacing this dinosaur is probably the answer!

    MUCH THANKS TO ALL HERE!

Why don't you unplug the cables from the HDD that run from the PS. Then plug in the 2nd set of cables from the HDD and see if that works. If not, I would suspect that something in the PS got zapped by the power outage that you mentioned.

The last step would be to replace the PS. They cost around $40. You need to be careful here and identify what power supply is now in the computer and get one that replaces it. If you have a choice to buy one that is rated higher than the current one, I wouldn't waste the money. Just buy one that replaces the current one.
