I was wondering what happened to him the other day and saw his last appearance was in July . No, I haven't heard a word.

All I know is that his computer died during Covid and all the shops were closed. He has been "surfing" on his phone. If that died, he has nothing.
I also know that South Africa has daily rolling blackouts because the power grid can't handle the load. Perhaps when he has power, he needs to do other thing rather than go on the internet. I suspect you don't keep fresh food in the house if you have no refrigeration for hours at a time so you end up shopping everyday. (That's what people did before they had freezers.)

 

Four now. As we all know he did have pretty serious heart problems - gotta hope he's still around and clicking.

 

I've been noticing myself that a lot of people on forums leave them when they become inactive. I've seen it happen so many times over the last few years. People who were regulars a long time ago seldomly log in anymore.

 

Yes this does happen a lot and a lot of great forums slowly die until they no longer exist.
I don't think this is the case for Eldon because he has been a regular poster here.
I know he enjoys helping people and he likes the MG community and he is pretty popular going by his like count

Yep although, I thought he had some treatment a while back and there was some improvement.
Lets hope we hear from him soon and then we can stop worrying

Thanks plodr I wasn't aware of this as I haven't communicated directly with Eldon in a couple of years as my health has been pretty ordinary the last few years and I am not on my computer half as much as I was previously due to eyesight issues.....some days I only check for birthdays at midnight (so I am in the future lol) like usual and then log out almost immediately to not strain my eyes. Even my 55" screen isn't really working for me at present and I will be seeing an ophthalmologist later this year to see if surgery will help although I am not expecting any good news
Sounds like it is difficult times in South Africa and rolling blackouts must cause plenty of problems with day to day life. Let's hope it is computer issues and not health issues......... or worse

I hope Eldon is okay. I really do think forums are on their last legs, for the most part. But I never did like Facebook. It's just not the same.

 

nothing to add that has not already been said. my good thoughts and best wishes go out to eldon, and to all of the major geek regulars. though i am not around all that much, major geeks has always been a special place for me, and i hope it continues to be that special place, well, forever, really. take care everyone!

 

Seems there hasn't been any further news re Eldon. I've not been on MGs for some time, so have missed out on the gos. I hope Eldon is okay.

Like everyone else, I hope Eldon is okay and his silence is due to not having access to the internet for some reason.

 

Eldon lived in Port Elizabeth, South Africa last time I had a message from him in 2017, but no later info. However he was posting here frequently until Jan 11 2023, nothing since.

Guess there are matters taking Eldon's time that have taken priority as it does with all of us and focus can change. I'm sure we'll hear back from him - maybe by year end for Season's Greetings (I hope)

 

Last time I corresponded with Eldon was a few years ago and he was having some serious health issues and was having some procedures to alleviate some heart problems. The procedures helped but my understanding was they are not a permanent fix.
I really hope he is okay as he hasn't replied to my email from a couple of months ago........I don't want to be the one....... but maybe we have lost another friend

In case Eldon is still around and hasn't replied for some other reason then wishing you all the best wishes for a merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous new year

 

Hey Laura, I emailed him on his personal email a couple of months ago and there has been no reply. I have my own mail exchange server/domain so I can see any traffic and nothing......it is not even showing as my email has been read ........it is not looking too good
I guess we can live in hope

 

I remember that time Eldon was having health issues...I haven't been around for a while, so only just took note now. I fear Joffa's fears may be spot on.

One can only hope Eldon is in good health and other circumstances are taking priority to MajorGeeks.
