Hey Folks, checking in to see how everyone is doing this week.

What's new? Anything amazing? Need support for something?

The horrors persist. Yet I remain silly.

    Looking for a flat exchange.

You would think people would like to be where I am in Edinburgh in terms of where the housing is situated, because I live near the city's main hospital, and it is close to the middle of the town as well. But my apartment building has a dark history, as two men were murdered on the floor below me in 2022.

The guys who did it were father and son. The dad previously had a jail term for disfiguring his partner with a corkscrew.

After inviting the two men separately to the accommodation, they used hammers, knives, and blowtorches to unleash their inner sadism.

The building is also full of mice. I have seen or heard them all the time since I moved there in 2018, so their droppings are everywhere.

I viewed the flat in the fall of 2017, but I had to wait a few months to move in as the flat was empty and needed painted, carpets put down, etc.

I'm wanting to relocate to be nearer to my family, but I don't feel any attachment to the flat now as my mum passed away. She came up to help me get shopping, but her health went downhill a few years ago. But another issue is that the concierges there like to act like stool pigeons for the pigs.

The police wanted to arrest me at Easter about some stupid stuff to do with an AdultWork.com sex worker who was being obnoxious online, and they basically got them to look out for me returning to the building. I kind of suspected they offered me the flat because there is CCTV and staff there. Normal flats have neither.

Of course, I didn't think of that at the time, since I was just glad to have my own space again. Years ago, I was in supported housing. The workers they employed were idiots. I have had a long ordeal because of them. So everyone knows about it, and wants me watched.

Too bad it isn't America, corkscrew murder notoriety is a plus, especially if you can still see the stains... it's a whole thing. Nasty stuff.

There was a summer storm this morning.
Heavy rain. Some wind. Thunder and lightning. Lasted about 3 hours.
blew the heck out of nap time.

"concierges there like to act like stool pigeons for the pigs."

Curious what that means. What is the concierge?

After thinking about it, you are saying the staff is ratting folks out to law enforcement. Pigs seems a bit rude, but we are from many different sections of the world.

    Haha, kind of :D

So, bit of background then. I work for a local government. As I said, I am the department. Historically this has always been the case. I've followed up a retiree, but only on the condition they add underlings within 12 months. I'm currently 6 months in and have just heard the reorganisation plan has been approved. Which means my position will change to senior strategic policy advisor (and a bit more money but not a lot because it's the government) and most importantly, they're adding 3 people to share the workload with. This is obviously excellent news.

Only caveat being that in 2026 the central government will be cutting local governments budgets so it remains to be seen how long these planned colleagues will actually be around.

Also, 3 people sounds like a lot, but currently my workload is that of 5 people so technically we're still understaffed.

I found a stack of old DVD's at my dad's place and realized that every single one of them had been remade recently. Hollywood is getting so lazy.

Yeah. The Grudge has been remade twice.

Any intermational horror movie in Asia or Europe that becomes a hit, Hollywood sees an opportunity to do their own version.

In one sense, it benefits people who don't enjoy reading subtitles for foreign language flicks.

Whats new with me.... never know where to start.

Still working in ophthalmology research mainly:
    • Multiple research studies on Wet AMD, Diabetes, Celebral Malarial Retinopathy (thats a mouth full), Uveitis, Vein occlusions etc
    • Run mainly 1 clinic now on Hydroxychloroquine toxicity
    • Oversee a suspected Wet AMD referral clinic from communoty opticians
    • Manage an weekly AMD MDT meeting (like hearding cats)
    • Work on commercial eye studies with major pharma, mostly AI/ML
    • Work with University (one I'm a honory research associate with) on AI/ML for diagnosing eye conditions
    • Teach trainee or more so specialist trainees in ophth in image analysis
    • Have many co-published papers and abstracts on the work I do, in ophth journals
    • Using data from clinics or the AMD MDT I deal with, using the data, I now have started using PowerBI to analyse the data

Large part of my work is future tech on how can we easily diagnose or predict eye diseases using imaging and AI, this is a passion of mine as we are having good success, needs work but looks good.

New car after debating since before COVID era that to get, it had changed multiple times and settled on a Lexus LBX

Not really done much in lasy few years on tech support here as the above work has consumed my time, that plus dealing with my late aunt and uncles estate has taken 2yrs to come to a resolution, I hope in September as their house was sold last month. Just finalisation with solicitors.

TIP: please do note down all financial accounts, investments etc and have a will (my aunt and uncle did on will) as makes the executors life easier.

Likely more I could add but my typing finger is in need of a rest! ;)
Hope all of you are well.

I hear you in gov working as, i'm in UK NHS and we have same constraints on staffing, I need 2 more in my dept to deal with the workload, but currently the support is 1 session a week (1 session in medical terms is half a day) from a retinal specalist doctor, so thats a real help.

But doesnt help my juggling of tasks and deadlines, though I have a well earned restbite at present as a large project has just finished and just dealing with end of project report.

Just to let you know, I am retiring from forums soon. The reason for this is that most of them have no activity in this day of age to speak of and I found my diminishing desire for thread engagement or a noticeable lack of quality posts was stacking up, coupled with fewer replies. What was once a good waste of an hour is now just the waste part. So as you will agree, none of these gaming talk sites really benefit people.

It's almost impossible to get noticed on YouTube too, but there's also the added issue of stalkers, big headed users, and having to do what Google sees fit, or you won't get anywhere. And X is just a joke.

I've met people here that I will love forever. As the format of forums moves somewhat into obscurity, I hope for it to have a renaissance by the people who remember that feeling of fun and comradery that it fostered before the internet became terrible, and that they'll come back looking for that spark they've been missing. Would I go looking for a new one, expecting the same experience... no. But here, I'll stay here.

Forums seem to be cyclical. Hopefully MajorGeeks will pick back up. I have met many good folks on other forums in person. I meet a group from one forum once or twice a year.

    We shoot a bunch. ;)

Well, I've been putting up with a weird stalker for a while now. Some sad guy online who likes to make multiple accounts just to spam on unmoderated sites, pretend to be a gumshoe, and behave in an immature way.

    U-U-U-U-U-M. OK...

Usually when I think of these kinds, though, I see this in my head. :D

And their bedroom: Dual monitors. Big glasses. Collectibles. Lit up PC. Potato chips. Soft drink containers. Sausage roll bags. Carton of chips. Burgers. Ice cream pot. Jelly doughnut. Takeaway dishes. Energy drink cans. Crushed Tango cans.

Everything a Western Australian socialite is, really. ;)

Me and the wife are buying a house! Going from a single wide to a 4 bedroom 2 bath house. A lot of anxiety, prayer, and doubt on this decision, but we decided to go for it. 2 bathrooms is great for a marriage. :)

Your loyalty is unquestionable......we all search for that spark again from days of old, sadly it illudes us mostly.
With todays tech platforms and options, forums are like Starbucks tables...... a place for old friends over many years who always sit in that particular corner of the store in order to chew the fat.
