    Hi all

    Need help please.
Since start of June 24 my system has been rebooting itself when in the middle of gaming or something else.

Up until today it only ever crashed and rebooted when playing games. even when MIS afterburner was set as 96% power and ensuring temp didn't reach 81 c. Just in case it was GPU. Even done complete uninstall and reinstall of GPU driver for 2060 super.
    Ive done the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Ive done sfs/scannow also (which on teh 2 occasions ive done this said it had repaired something)

Today 7 crashes and not even playing games. each time i look at event viewer i see the reports for the reboot. but nothing before that triggered it. or at least i cant find it.

Hoping someone may be able to point me in the correct path to try and diagnose and repair my issue.

Earliest restore option i have is 06/06/24 which is after this all started.

    thanks

You don't say whether your pc is a desktop or laptop, which is important information for all sorts of reasons.

So for total clarity, the pc was working with no such issues until very recently. The reboots originally occurred only when you were stressing the system and more specifically playing games. However, now the system reboots very frequently even when the pc is not stressed.

From your post it seems to be your opinion that this is a software issue. I am not entirely convinced believing this to more likely be a hardware issue or heat issue.

From the scant information provided and in no particular order this could related amongst other things to:

    1. CPU overheating
    2. Ram issues
    3. PSU issues

In your shoes, my first test would be the cpu and run Prime95. Also download a program that will monitor your cpu's temperature when testing it.

    Good luck

it is a desktop win 10 gaming PC.

Prime95 does what? when i read up on it it just counts prime numbers. how will it help with my issue?

At start of June crashes occurred that forced a reboot when gaming. System resources under task manager doe snot show system stressed.
At the time of the post. When i had 7 crashes, i was not playing games and again system not stressed.
I have played the same game i was receiving crashes in, no further crashes so far after 8 hours play.
I doubt my system is fixed itself
Attached the dxdiag report in case that helps?

system started to crash again multiple times with and without gaming

i reverted GPU driver to a a version 2 releases older. fresh install and still crashed.

    Used prime 95.
Used a CPU temp and it ran at 74 to 80 C.
I think CPU seems ok? No issues when ran prime 95 and even when ran at 99% i was still freely able to do other stuff on it

    any further advice please?

Ran prime 95 for 50 min. no issues

ram memory check done. no issues
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth done. For 6th time since may 24
sfc /scannow done for 5th time since may 24

not seeing any issues. I suppose i am down to either a GPU issue or something else?

i have msi afterburner, would that help me diagnose an gpu issue?

any other tools i can use to find my issue?

    Good to know.

What I would do next is rule out your ram by running memtest86. Before you do this, I note that your PC has 32GB of ram. Do you know how many ram modules you have? Run memtest for at least 12hours....

Also and not that i know about Win10 since I do not use it but some users were reporting a while back that a particular MS update to their o/s was causing various issues. So what version do you have? Hopefully someone who is familiar with Win10 can jump in and clarify this particular point.

    thank you for your reply
I had ran a windows memory diagnostic on the ram yesterday and took some time and had no errors.
4 ram modules at 8gig each
I will download memtest and run it.

Which software is best to test my GPU is working with no faults?

    Question
I cant use memtest when computer running normally? has to be when in UEFI?

ive managed to write the image to a usb.

But my windows keeps asking me to format the usb as it cant read it now.

This seems rather complicated to use. is there not a version to test ram when system running normally? what does this program do better in order for it to be software of choice to use?

    thanks

    Hmm...!

So a ram module of 8Gb is occupying each ram slot....and thus you are running the 4 ram modules on both channels ie two on each channel

What is the make and model of your mobo?

Is it possible for you to remove 2 of the 4 8Gb ram modules from the mobo and leave 2 only each occupying one channel, these are usually ram slot 1 and 3 but the manual should give this info

hi thank you for you reply

Was working fine for 1 day and playing games.
today crashed within 4 min of playing a game. But had been online using computer and browsing for 3 hours prior to crash and gaming.

today did a user benchmark test to see if it can spot any issues or degradation. however the score is similar to last year.

    I have 2 pairs of 8gb yes 8+8+8+8 = 32GB. 1 &3 and 2 &4 channels. i think all are Corsair.

The CMD Memory test i did previously , didnt pick up ram issues.

Is there a GPU test i can do on my GPU to either confirm its a GPU hardware problem or eliminate it as a possible issue.

I did a windows update just before all the crashes started around beginning of june 24.

    question
on dxdiag, under dispplay. is teh main driver line supposed to have same drive listed 4 times?

Is it normal to have driver listed that many times in dxdiag?

Also under the display on DX DIAG. i cant run texts. Am i not supposed to be able to run graphics tests like Directdraw, Direct 3D and AGP Texture acceleration etc?

    So an update.

no crashes since last reported. Not fixed anything and not changed anything.

The only think different. is that i noticed when turning on system, loggin in. the desktop screen took a while to log in. when it did. my task bar pinned apps were not showing. would take several minutes before they did. Ive found that previously when this happens my system is sluggish in game play.

so each time it now does this. i simply shut down from start menu. and turn on again. then after this or 2 more repeat tries. as soon as i log in my desktop is there instantly as it shoyudl be and with task bar pinned apps. when i play i get no crashes.

So i think its fair to say that perhaps something isn't working right when first turning pc on and logging in.

Dont know what as ive done mem test and did cpu stress test. so i think it will have to be down to the MS update at start of june messing around with some config aspects.

I intend to do a MS rollback soon and see if i get the same issue when switching on pc.

    Still getting same crashes.

These were reduced as i tend to reboot machine after first loading up which seemed to work well.

But today its crashed 6 times.

Surely there is a way or some tool or software that i can keep running and then when it crashed next is able to tell me what the issue is? surely we have invented such a thing?

    thanks
