    Hello all,

First off I'd like to give my thanks and congratulations to the members and people running this site. I've used this site as early as back in 2006 to find software for Windows XP and 7 back when I was a young kid. Now as a working adult it amazes me how people still uses forums in this day and age. I thought surely everyone switched over to apps like Discord, Spaces, etc.

I'm happy to see that MajorGeeks is still around and thriving even if people don't really use forums like they used to in the 2000s LOL!

Active is a strong term. Alive and willing to BE active, abso-fing-lutely. We are not forum, we are nerdy kin!

Forums are still some of the best information sources for specialist topics you may be researching.
You usually get great accurate information from those who have direct experience, and are accutely knowledgable in that particular field.

If real time communication is your goal, then SM platforms may suit you better however you should double check information accuracy always.

I go to 7 forums daily. There are also a few with little activity that I check in on every few weeks.
At least here I know I'm getting advice from real people and not suggestions from AI!!!

I don't need instantaneous advice. I can wait, then do some searching to see what advice seems to suit my situation the best.

I am also glad of the internet friends I've made over the years in forums.

It’s great to hear your story! It’s amazing how some things stand the test of time, isn’t it? Forums like MajorGeeks have a unique charm and sense of community that newer platforms sometimes lack. It’s wonderful to see that it’s still a go-to resource for many, even in this age of Discord and other apps. Kudos to the team for keeping it alive and thriving!

What kind of software are you into these days? Any favorites?

Sorry, AI wrote that. I couldn't resist.

Remember AI bots are trained by us, we stream information into LLM's
Generative AI is still a way off but developing.

Forums are nowhere as popular because garbage like X took over and then normal forums went out of fashion, I guess. Some forums are also full of bitter nerds, flame wars, and all that.

Never understood the appeal with Discord, as it's not even a forum either. You just basically chat. That's about it.

I noticed IGN doesn't have forums any more, which isn't surprising. But I don't like GameFAQs.

It's IRC with an easier GUI and way to setup and manage channels. Given how popular IRC was / is (in certain circles), I'm not that surprised Discord is a hit.

I only use discord for voice communication during game raiding. And I'm nerdy enough to be in a LARP group, so we have meetings every two months. I don't use it otherwise. I'm antisocial.

I'm not antisocial, but I have social anxiety. Used to like chatting to people when it was manageable. Now I can barely do it. Just feel shut off from society.

These people I met years ago took the Mickey a lot when I was in my 20s. Not far off of being 40, so time does fly when you realize how fast the years move. :(

Hoping to get a girlfriend, and settle down. But even that's a chore, because dating sites are full of "neurotypicals" and mess-around types, and it just never gets going.

I did pay for sex, and found they were shallow and into sadism, and just promoting misandry on Twitter (now X). Even got money nicked in a sauna when I was showering. I could tell when I left I was a bit short. But it's not like I can take jeans in with me. :D
