Welcome back! I was going to comment that I felt needing reading glasses was the worst thing about getting old - but I'm going to go out on a limb and say you beat that with the whole leukemia thing. YIKES! Going well?

Yes... the Leukemia thing was sure an eye opener for me. in 2021 I collapsed at work and hospital told me that it was a fluke they found the leukemia as well as developing diabetes2....The docs view me as an enigma because apparent I had these 2 conditions all my life. Since I was little, the docs kept telling me that I was suffering from stress and developed PTSD. The docs cannot understand why I survived without treatment. My immune system is strong [I don't catch colds or flu] and healthy until now....
Treatments are going well so far. Between you and I, my body went icky after the first Covid 19 shot... I got very sick after receiving the second and third booster shot. I told the docs that I will not get anymore booster shots. I think that if Covid epidemic did not occur I would still be healthy today. I also receive needles in my eyeballs for retinopathy...that is not fun.
I take one day at a time and thank God and the angels for another day and think positive thoughts... I suffer alone....I have no support system, family or friends.. Everyone abandoned me...no matter....I am stubborn and strong willed....I will beat this.

Do take care of your health..... being ill in your golden years are not fun times...
    catch later :)

Don't worry. Retinopathy and Adema is part of a diabetics life. The docs misdiagnosed me over 40 plus years about the diabetes and here I am with the damages caused by the wrong diagnosis.... the docs said that I was stressed and healthy...hahaha....
The needles is every six weeks now....used to be every four weeks.... this problem is for life or I will become blind. the serum is called EYLEA is the brand name for the drug, which is called aflibercept. It blocks the growth and leaking of fluid from abnormal blood vessels in the back of the eye. Those blood vessels can leak and affect vision, causing vision loss from wet AMD and diabetic eye disease
"What is the success rate for diabetic retinopathy eye injections? A 2021 study found that injections reduced the risk of vision-threatening events by 75% after 2 years in people with existing diabetic retinopathy. the cost is $4,000 to $15,000 per injection.
Luckily I'm Canadian and it cost me nothing because I'm a senior and OHIP covers it.
Since I have Leukemia, the treatment is not working as it should.... I still see black tree trunk and sticks as floaters in my field of vision. I also have cataract in one eye and since I take Calquence medication...they cannot operate...these meds would make me bleed to death...not good.... I must not fall or cut myself.... so far I'm doing okay and avoid anything that would endanger me.. :)
snowing lots with 40 clicks of wind ....I stay inside and hope for the best....

NOTE: Stay healthy, watch your weight and cholesteral and do lots of walking/exercise to avoid Diabetes.

I walk a ton at work. Started walking a lot more on my days off. Loosing a couple of pounds, enjoying it. The deer are showing back up at the park I walk at. They disappear when deer season starts, even though the park is in the city, no hunting allowed.

I bought a treadmill for Christmas to get some steps in, because where I am there's no place to walk easily. I should probably take it out of the box.

Depends on how many extra steps you take a day to avoid the box. :D I prefer walking outside, but did get the wife a walking pad, like a small treadmill.

    12,095 steps today, 5 miles. :)

    Hey Shelagh,

Leukemia not nice, but seems treaments are ongoing and working.

On the retinopathy I hear you on that while I'm not affected (did have a retinal detachment 3yrs ago) I do work in that area at times in ophthalmology research and Eylea is a good drug (minus the needle in the eye bit) to reduce an oedema and subretinal fluid build up, the every 4-6 weeks or at times we treat and extend, based off the OCT scans and fluid volume. Dont know if your hospital uses Vabysmo (faricimab and yes the names for me can be a tounge twister still) yet as the intervals can be upward of 8 weeks.

    I wish you well.
