Following on from http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=111791 about Calendars, I have downloaded and installed MS .NET version 2.0

I already have Outlook on my PC as part of Office 2000. I can access the Calendar through Outlook in Office 2000.

    I installed Outlook_on_the_Desktop from MG download http://www.majorgeeks.com/Outlook_on_the_Desktop_d5434.html

All I get is a transparent window on my desktop. Outlook does not apparently synchronise with Outlook_on_the_Desktop for me.

Any hints as to what I am doing wrong? Bazza

    Hi Bazza

I installed this to test, however I did use Office 2003 as thats all I have installed, it works ok for me, but I wonder if you need the two security updates that were released for .NET 2.0 maybe worth going to WU and seeing if they are listed for you... dont know why you woudl need those updates for it to work but you may!

but also try this, just a test not a fix..... same app but it opens in a webpage goto this location C:\Program Files\Outlook on the Desktop\outlookAX instead of your desktop, in the location I listed double click the outlookAX file named in bold, does that open?

Thanks Halo, I will check out WU.

Not sure what you mean in your test.

    Is
C:\Keepers\Outlook on the Desktop\outlookAX.html the file you are talking about?

On my PC, Outlook on the Desktop is installed in C:\Keepers not c:\Program Files (not that this would make a difference. I just prefer to keep as much stuff out of c:\program Files as possible.

The answer is NO, it did not open, just a red X in a black square. Bazza

Bazza it may make a difference in not being in the default install location, worth a re-install and test?

    @Halo@

    Uninstalled Outlook_on_the_Desktop from C:\Keepers\Outlook_on_the_Desktop.
    Ran CCleaner and others.
Downloaded and installed (and rebooted) most of the critical updates, including 2 for MS.NET

Installed Outlook_on_the_Desktop in C:\Program Files\Outlook_on_the_Desktop, default installation Folder.

    Rebooted again. Same problem.

Transparent box appears on Desktop with a red cross, in a black square, at top left hand side.

Do I need to be running Outlook Express with Calendar open before Outlook_on_the_Desktop will work. Tried that anyhow, no difference.

What happens when you bootup? Does Outlook_on_the_Desktop automatically appear with Calendar details, even if you haven't opened Outlook 2003?

    Yes exactly like this

No on OE and Calendar as I didnt have them open either, just re-booted and screenie was taken with default apps loaded.

I can only suggest emailing the author and seeing if he has done tests with Office 2000 ( I know he did the app using Office 2003 ) or has a workaround/fix

I've received a reply back form my email to the Author.

He is going to try it on an XP / Office 2000 combination, and he will let me know. Bazza

    Success !!!
I downloaded and installed SP1 for Office 2000. What a drag using dialup !!!

Outlook on the Desktop displays on Desktop on bootup, great, but I cannot find out how to minimise it.

    What am I overlooking?
If not available, it is something you might consider, or have you deliberately designed it that way?

Above is the latest email sent to Michael (the developer)

Thinking about it further, I guess it is designed that way, to be on the Desktop all the time the computer is on. (doh)

I can live with that. Bazza
