Good for you guys, that weed is a killer. I've been smoke free for 5 years also. Hey MA, it's only really bad for two weeks. I've done it often enough to know. I find that when I want a cig, even after 5 years, I take a few really deep breaths and the want is reduced/eliminated for me. :) Hang in there.

BTW, quitting on New Years, I found that it put too much stress on me, I quit when I was ready.

What's that...cough, cough....someone mention my name..cough! Hang on, let me get into my smoking jacket, and grab my glass of port and cigars.

Thats better....Jaza my man, apologies for the lack of support at your last thread, but i only get to emotional (as you understand) when confronted with personal rights issues on the morals of smoking!
I start to attack others back, and say really stupid things that i know i will regret later on....and i dont wanna do this to my online buddies and family at Majorgeeks!

I know it is a horrid and despicable act, but it is my choice, and i do enjoy it!
If i wanna die a painful cancerous death, that should be my decision, and mine alone.....however stupid it may seem to others!

Having said that, I also applaud those that have the courage and conviction to kick the habit.
Nicotine is an extremely addictive, damaging substance, that has caused more deaths than one cares to touch on, and i know (deep down) that i must also find this conviction within myself one day soon, and quit the habit if not for me, but for my family and loved ones.
I admit i have tried several times (made countless New Years resolutions) and failed miserably each time. This is not to say that it's not possible, as many others have already proven!

My personal belief is that the issue is a mindset....you really must change your way of thinking about smoking, and start to tell yourself that you dont enjoy this horrible habit anymore, you don't need it and you don't want it!

A good friend of mine was a fairly heavy smoker such as myself and was probably the last person i would expect to quit....but one day she told me that she was going to try hypnosis.
I naturally laughed this off as i believed it was a money spinning, crock of s#@t by the croney company offering it....but guess what? It worked.
It managed to change the way she thought about smoking and she has not touched a ciggy since!!

I sincerely want to wish you my very best in your attempts to Quit, and who knows, maybe you can be an inspiration for me and others to follow suit.

Please let me know how you go with this Jaz!! (you can do it man)...

    Regards

    Wayne

May be the only bad habit I never had. Yrs ago I didn't smoke just to be different and get attention. Now I'm glad I didn't for many other reasons. But to each his own. Just wondered, how many people do you know that said, "Gee, I wish I still smoked". or "I'm sorry I quit, I think I'll start again".

I've said that often, Strange, because then I could quit and I would have the money I wouldn't be spending on smokes to blow on other stuff.:D
@N5638J. It's worth the try, and if it works you'll have the money I just talked about.

I quit smoking 15 months ago after 35 years on ciggies. If you want me to be honest with you I had the worst year's health of my life! I never was ill when I smoked! I'm over it now, it is not easy, believe me, but it is worth it.

Come June 2007 in the uk you will not be able to smoke in Pubs (bars) and restaurants and I didn't want somebody to compel me to do something so I decided to quit for me!

I am 1 big giant twitch. I did the mall thing too, i'm holding on! Traffic was a nightmare, and even my wifes driving didnt cause me too smoke!!
HAHA, i'm gonna pull it off!!

Good luck - it is a very hard thing to do, but one of the best things you can do for your health.

I've been 4 years smoke free come Dec 2. I wasn't able to do it cold-turkey - I had to use the nicotine gum. It worked for me - then I had to wean myself off that, but that was pretty easy. I started cutting them in two, then in quarters . . . finally regular gum worked.

You can do it! Trust me, if I can - anybody can. I've got the will-power of a monkey handed a cupcake!!

since i decided to quit, its been about 32 hours, i think...ran outta fingers:D
though the last smoke was before i went to bed the evening before. Cold turkey is tough, I am still twitching, cant stop typing because i dont know what to do with my hands. sure i could think of something;) everything looks hazy so to speak, kinda spaced out feeling, like staring into a big void.
I havnt cheated yet, I dont want to.. though the thought crosses my mind once a minit...
Thanks alot for the support all.

Thats so great Jazagod, it will get easier, it really will. Each day, each hour you conquer gives you such a strength. Remember, if by chance you do slip it's not the end of it, pick up where you left off. I was so proud at one point I told the doctor, "no, I'm not smoking", I'm down to a couple a day. I actually thought I was not really smoking, DUH!
    Wishing you good luck.

You have to find what it is that works for you. There's so much stuff out there. My doctor wanted to put me on something that could cause seizers, that alone made me decide on nothing. Have to remember by the time I quit I already had developed emphysema so breathing alone was difficult let alone adding smoke. It really turns you into an invalid, everything you try to do is like going uphill @ 30,000 feet. Illnesses turn deadly even colds. Sorry got off on a rant here. I really want to spare others what I have gone through.
Give it a try, give everything a try, one is bound to work for you. GOOD LUCK

    Good for You!!!:D ;) :)

i used getting sick to my advantage,
you know when you get real sick & can't smoke - then cig's REALLY STINK...
well it happened about 12 years ago,
& i've tried one or two since then - made me real dizzy & sick on the first drag...
so who said getting sick on occasion is all bad...
Smoke free, weight came back down after a couple years, 137 now & felling fine.......

That is my thought too. If it is worth doing as a New Years resolution it is worth doing the moment you think about it. Putting it off until some artificial date in the future just makes things harder on you.

That being said, I have yet to quit smoking even though I have noticed some what serious health effects. :( Horray, for being an addict I suppose.

Good going Jaz. It's a toughie to go cold turkey. I quit Dec 27, 1999, just to bring in the year 2000 on a positive note. It took 5 days for the automatic hand-reach to my top pocket to stop, but after that the minute by minute cravings calmed down. I'm still trying to get my 75 year-old Mom to quit, but her Mom (my granny) died 2 weeks ago at 94. So keep with it Jaz, and ten days from now, you'll be telling your pals "That wasn't so hard - I shoulda quit years ago." :)
