Man Hangs Onto Car During Police Chase

TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- A Brevard County woman said she didn't even know a runaway convict had jumped onto her moving car. Cameras captured Tyrone Davis' dangerous effort to escape in Titusville. He ended up getting dragged, then arrested.

Tyrone Davis has been behind bars most of his adult life and now he is stuck in jail, again, after he apparently picked the wrong senior citizen to carjack. "He just must have hung on when I took off really fast," said Ellinor Billick.

Billick can't figure out how a would-be carjacker held on to her car and pulled her into a police pursuit. The 76-year-old Titusville woman was headed home with her daughter from an after Christmas celebration when she said Tyrone Davis ran up to her car and pulled on her door.

Her daughter screamed. "She said, ‘oh my god, oh my god. Mom let's get out of here,’ and she said ‘go, go,’ and I went,” said Billick. Billick sped away but what she didn't know was Davis was still holding on to her car.

"I'm driving the car and my daughter couldn't see him either because she was on the other side," Billick added. It wasn't until police started chasing them that they decided to pull over.

"Then, finally my daughter said ‘you better stop. I think they want us to stop,’" she said. That's when police arrested Davis. They were looking for him after a home invasion and two store robberies.

He got out of prison 2 years ago, released early after serving 15 years for attempted murder. Wednesday a judge ordered Davis be held in jail until his trial. Relief for Billick who is just grateful her doors were locked and that she still is quick with the gas pedal.

"I can take off at a traffic light quicker than any other car, I'll tell you," said Billick.

Police said if Davis wasn't released from prison early, he wouldn't have been able to commit all the crimes. In addition to the home invasion, car jacking and robbery charges, police gave him a traffic ticket for riding on the outside of a vehicle.
