    Hi,

I want to download some specific songs for a compilation album I'm making for myself. I would just like to pay for the individual tracks rather than having a monthly subscription and would like legal downloads. I hate Itunes and have removed it from my computer (prefer winamp)

The songs are not too charty and include air - all I need, ennio morricone - the good the bad and the ugly, sneaker pimps - 6 underground, bjork - frosti and so on, so the site would have to have a decent selection. (being able to search the site before I joined would be beneficial)

Any ideas? I have searched a few sites but they keep asking for my email address before I can do much and I fear the spam attack, so a few pointers would be great (also I prefer mp3 to aac/wma if possible)

    thanks

    Duncan/Leftfield27

Sony has a download site www.connect.com. Don't know if they are in ATRAC or MP3 format though. I would also suggest looking at the downloads available from Microsoft through WMP11 (I assume you can access their store without WMP11 but I wouldn't know).

Both of these would be trustworthy and safe so SPAM shouldn't be a problem.

Probably the best other suggestion is to use iTunes and convert the music into something useful with Tunebite or another AAC converter.

For an anti spam email address, this one's quite good

A couple of google links for you to check out
    anonymous email address

    http://www.google.com/search?q="ano...=20&hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=ISO-8859-1&as_qdr=all

    one time email address
    http://www.google.com/search?num=20...ne+time+email+address"&btnG=Search&lr=lang_en

Another solution, just create another email address with your ISP. For example, if your email address is leftfield27@................., just establish another at rightfield99@...........
and use it only for music downloads. It really doesn't matter if you get spam at that address then, and you can keep your primary email address free of spam from music related links. Bazza

OK, don't laugh, I've completed albums by buying songs on Walmart.com (music downloads) for .88 a song.

darlene, awhile back my first web domain name was nextune.com. I had it awhile and some guy in washington state wanted that domain for tunes, and I sold it to them.

Check them out and see if they have what you need. They seem to be pretty good people.

I just made a thread looking for this same thing, and I found one. Allofmp3.com has a huge library of music where you choose the format to download in. It does ask for your email address when you register, but you can decline to recieve "special offers" from them. You pay on a per-song basis, with each mp3 track costing like20-40 cents a piece. The only twist is that you have to pre-pay for your music like A Paypal account, annd the minimum amount is 10$ (which I've gotten like96 songs with),but other than that, it's an amazing site. Hope that helps.

You know I lost tract. It was such a big deal at one time now I never hear anything. There are still free sites to do just that, some put more spyware out then others. Napster was the target a few years back, they now charge.

Be careful going there, with the trillions in lawsuits against them it's likely everyone downloading from them is having their IP noted.

LIMEWIRE has a free serivce and a pay service. You can get some crap on it but I have pretty good luck with it. Like I said, the BASIC is free.

I use Limewire but around Halloween I was getting spooky sounds for my grandchildren and ended up with around 7 16 second long audios that attached themselves to titles I already then the title said (Free Porn) had a hell of a time getting rid of them, it kept saying it was in use. The Safe Mode did the trick though. Now I'm reluctant to use it again, it was my best source for Blues or Jazz I couldn't find elsewhere too.

leftfield: If you set up a free account on napster.com, you can buy songs for $0.99 and download them. You can also listen to them free before you buy, but I think you can only listen to a particular song 3 times.
