Its not turning anything off, its most likely the DNS client service crashing.

Are you connected to your modem by NIC, or USB?

I'd recommend running scans for malware/spyware on your system if you've never done that. I'll give you a bunch of scans which might be overkill but it'll remove most infections on your computer.

Before you start, I think you have the msblast worm, so you can remove it by following the instructions on this page: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2003-081119-5051-99

Also, here are some tools to remove spyware infections that might be present on your system follow these steps bellow:

    tinyurl.com/95tzv (download smitrem) (alemond infections)
    tinyurl.com/m4gxz (download smitfraudfix) (alemond infections)
    tinyurl.com/2bvur (download xcleaner) (trojan infections)
tinyurl.com/ma3k9 (download atf cleaner) (temp files)
tinyurl.com/9nyda (download spybot 1.4) (spyware, pups, key loggers etc)
    tinyurl.com/9uaag (download vundofix) (Vundo infections)
    http://www.ewido.net (run full online scan)

Save all the scans except the ewido one to your desktop.
Run the next scans in safemode with networking BUT before going to safemode disable all your startup files. Go to start, then run and type MSCONFIG.....Go to startup on the top right of system config utility then, click on disable all, click on apply and close then click on restart.

(To go to safemode turn your pc off and one it is turning back on (boot) hit F8 two or three times. Then choose safemode /networking and choose your user name)
****TIP**** Smitrem and smitfaudfix might be seen as "infections" by your antivirus and might say you have malicious scripts running. TRUST me they are fine so allow the scripts to run or grant access to them.*****
    1. Double click on the smitrem icon and once a self extractor comes up click start at the top right then click on Ok. You'll have a new folder on your desktop call smitrem. Open the folder and look for a file called run this.
Double click on it, allow it to run...and keep hitting your spacebar to skip all those messages and once the screen changes and the scan starts stop hitting the space bar.
Once the scan ends it's going to say scan complete then hit your spacebar. Click yes for running in safemode, then click cancel on the disk cleanup utility.

    2. Right click on the folder smitfraudfix and click on extract all. Extract the folder to the desktop. One the new extracted folder and once you are in and see like 12 files or so..look for a file call smitfraudfix. Run it. You'll see another bluescreen with options 1, 2, 3, 4, etc
Click on 1 on your keyboard and enter to run a search. Then close the rapport notepad.
Now click on 2 and enter to clean and go through a killing process.
Cancel the disk clean up utility, and click Y for yes to clean the registry.
Say yes you are running in safemode.
Click 3 and enter to delete trusted zones and Y for yes and enter to restore the trusted zones.
    Then click q for quit.

    3. Double click on xcleaner, and allow it to run. The scan will start. If it finds an infection it will say "Alert, suspicious threat detected" Click on REMOVE IT on the bottom left. Then click no to run a system restore point.
Then the scan will continue and if it finds more infections go over those steps again.
Do not reboot when the scan ends, so click no for a reboot.

    4. Double click on ATF cleaner and allow it to run. Then click on SELECT ALL on the bottom and then click on empty selected. (your hour glass will be on until it removes all the files. Then it'll say done cleaning and click on OK.
    Then exit the program.

    5. Now install spybot 1.4. Once it is installed search for updates first, download all the updates. Once the updates are downloaded click on immunize. Once it says 0 bad products blocked etc etc click on OK. Then click on immunize at the top (green + sign.) Once it is immunized click on and check enable permanent blocking of bad addresses.
Now click on search and destroy on the top left...then click on CHECK for problems.
Once the scan ends click on fix selected problems at the top (you'll only see that option once the scan is complete) Then click YES, and then click OK.
If it says not all infections could be removed cause some are still in memory, click yes and allow spybot to run on a system reboot.)

    6. Run vundofix and allow it to run and click on SCAN For Vundo. If it finds nothing close it, but if it finds infections click on Remove Vundo. System will reboot if it finds infections.

    7. Lastly, go to www.ewido.net in IE browser (not firefox). Click on SCAN NOW under a guy with a laptop. If it asks you to install active X install it. Then let a signature database download, and once it is downloaded click START scan at the bottom. It'll scan in about 15 to 45 mins depending on the size of your harddrive. Then click on remove infections when it's done and click on OK.

At this point go back to start, and run and type MSCONFIG, and go back to startup at the top right. Put your startup files back up. (if you must copy the start name in google and look for a site call process information. It will let you know if the startup file is a non essential process, an infection, or a program that should not be terminated.) If you have no clue what you're doing just enable all but check google anyways to make sure one of them is not a know infection.
Hit apply and close and restart. Go back to normal mode and check to see if you're still have the same issues you were experiencing.

lol, you might be right. So epsonone, does your computer turn off or do you lose your connection? if you just lose your connection it might be BT but if windows turns off i'ts the blaster worm. But I'd try to run some scans to be sure you're not infected. Also if you have a NIC I'd connect an ehternet cable if it's possible. I've found USB connections suck in my opinion.

Anyways, let us know how it turns out.

    Pretty unlikely its msblast.

See if you can find an updated driver for that modem.
