Ok , definately not cool. but i got your attention! I quit smokin before xmas, and those who know me well.
I kept it up
No more twitchies, all is good.....well mostly!
I think i gained a belly !
whats up with that?
now i dont smoke, but I'm Fat!

Way to go, Jaza!!! First couple of weeks are the hardest part. Sometimes people will gain weight after quiting, but it might just be from the holiday feasting. I always make my diet a little strict after the holidays because I put on a few pounds. Don't worry about it, a little extra weight is better than black, tarry lungs.

Keep it up, breathing feels good!!

I was a 3 pack a day user, in 1981, when I quit. Only smoke I get now is when others polute my air

I was wondering how you were doing, thats great, over the hump for sure. I don't think the weight gain is a permanent thing, as for me it was ok, always been under weight, but it drops off. You may not feel all that different but your saving your lungs for sure. It's been around 6 years for me now. Keep at it.

PS @ GaryG, 3 packs? had to be non-stop huh? wow!

 

That's stage one, Jaz. The jitters fade but then comes stage two. Sometimes a friend may "push" one on you. Here have a smoke, you can easily quit any time you want. You may be feeling confidant, that you can, but that little "devil's voice" must be ignored at all cost. After all your agony, this is no time to waiver. Stage three sneaks up on you. After being tolerant of smokers for several months, along comes Jaz the "quit-smoking-nazi". If your pals still smoke, they'll likely blow smoke in your in your face, from time to time, just to tease you. Just say "not cool guys." Preaching about the perils of smoking won't work for these pals. They've got to get there, on their own terms, just like you did, Jaz.

prometheos, "along comes Jaz the "quit-smoking-nazi". Thats so funny, true though, when people quit something they tend to look down on it as the worst possible addiction.

My mum found it very hard to give up about 9 years ago, took her a good few attempts but she persevered with it and it paid off.

 

From the time I got up in the morning to the time I went to bed at night.
Ever heard the expression "coughing your head off"? One day - as I was lighting up - I had a vision of me standing there without my head which was rolling on the floor, coughing; I put out the one that I had just lit, and threw away the pack it came out of. I have not smoked since.

Something to think about:

I had a chest x-ray about a year ago; Its been 25 years since I quit smoking (i'm 70) - the doctor could still see the evidence of my smoking on the x-ray.

My wife's sister was a life long smoker -- Lung cancer killed her 6 months ago

I was talkin to my friends girl friend the other night, she quit 8 years ago and still gets the craving once in a while. Amazing!!

Yes, sadly like any addiction from now on you'll have to start your sentences with, "hello, my name is Jaza and I'm a smoker". JK it isn't a constant crave. When you get to the point where the smell bothers you, bothers you in a yucky way, that helps.

What I wanted to tell you mostly was I checked out your web site. Found the music section (blues of course) and have a new hero by the name of Watermelon Slim. Listened to the pod cast on my windows media player, which surprised me, maybe cuz I upgraded yesterday. Anyway not only was the music great the mans political savvy, knowledge and humor is worth listening to. Thanks :clap
