mobile phones from overseas

Hey guys,

I'm going over to Bangkok soon and I'm also in need of a new mobile phone. Just wondering if it's true that phones are cheaper over there or should I just forget it?

I live in Australia by the way!

dont know about bangkok or australia......but on more than one occasion people have bought mobiles in england to come here, on the express understanding that they work in hawaii. only they never have!!! probable explanation is that the people selling them dont actually realise that hawaii isnt in america (or even close). my advise would be to get a phone from the company you intend to use. even then there is no guarantee the dam thing will work!!! aloha

 

Agree with laurieB. The amount you may save may not be worth the effort.

Haunt the Telstra, Vodaphone, Virgin, etc., shops and Internet sites, to check out what standard is required to operate in Australia, before you go.(so you can use it legally when you get back)

Overseas sellers will tell you anything to sell you a phone, so beware.
After all, you are not likely to get back to Thailand to ask for a refund. Bazza

Thanks for the warnings guys - think you are right, not worth it especially if I get it home and it doesn't work.... my bank account will just have to suffer once again

 

All is not lost, plenty of good deals in OZ, just shop around and have a list of the "must have" capabilities that you consider essential.
Don't let Aussie salespeople (PC ) talk you into something as a compromise. Bazza
