I know there are freebie progs out there that will delete the files on the hard drive that were already removed from the recycle bin. I did some searches already on this site but no luck. I found a program that will recover the removed files but nothing that will premantly remove (overwrite) them. Anything out there that I can get my hands on ( free :D ).

Here you go mate. I have used this for a while now http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4221.html it totally gets rid of anything you tell it to. It also has a handy right click option that can erase like the delete option

    PLUS ITS FREE

Thanks guys... I already tried the Eraser program but didn't see where it allowed you to scan only the deleted files. It seemed to scan the files on my harddrive that I use. I'll give it another try. Thanks.:cool

  5. Hi Scott_in_RI,
I've always been under the impression that if you defrag. there's no way to restore deleted files anymore. Maybe that might work.

Hey again... on both those programs I can't see how to have it search for only deleted files (from the recycle bin). The 'HELP' feature on the Security Tool Kit goes to a link that no longer exsist. If you used this before and can help I'd greatly appreciate it... novice here.

    Yes good thinking mate.

The intention of all these programs is to substitute the eraser rograms for the recycle bin for the folders you never want back!!!

Thanks why what shanemail said above is the best thing to do if you have already deleted a file.

As for defragging you hard drive. the time that takes top do it would be quicker to recover then erase.

    Thanks UKARMYCADET

That makes sense but once I restore them I don't know what folders they will end up in or will they ALL go back into the recycle bin. Which of the two programs will do the best job; Eraser or Security Toolkit, or do you suggest another one?

you can select what folder to put the deleted items into.

just restore to the desktop and use eraser to delete them again. They will be then lost for ever.

A good recovery piece to use is PC Inspector file rocovery. This can be downloaded here. http://www.pcinspector.de/download.asp?language=1

Just tell it to erase "free space"...that'll shred any files which might be sitting in unused HHD space...it won't matter whether they came from, recycle bin or elsewhere.
