hi guyz when i look at the performance of my processor at the task manager,
it reads 100% just after booting up, and i have not yet run any apps, i check my processes and all is normal with windows processes running at usual kbs i got only winpatrol and avg at my startup, i use za when connecting to the net. i scanned my pc for viruses and spyware but found nothing. i installed a new hard disk and installed a fresh copy of win xp but still processor reads a flat 100%... may i ask some advice, im using celeron 1.7..thanks

Glad you liked it, Toke. Thanks for the reply.;)

I have it set to startup at bootup. It is quick to show anything that clogs your CPU, in real time, for any reason. Just keep an eye on the minimised icon down by the time (bottom right). Bazza

hi sorry for replying late got hooked up lately. i installed everest from the link below but i cant find where the processor reading is, i installed process explorer and my cpu usage is 100% (the green one) and the system (red) fluctuates at 28 - 50 % sometimes it says interrupts. i dont fully undrstand the color codes in PE, what does PID mean? and my my top 5 processes from the PID column are wmiprvse.exe 3748 (red); wscntfy.exe 2004 (blue); alg.exe 1996 (pink); avp.exe 1460 (grey) and spoolsv.exe 1364, others with score of 1000 are Zclient, explorer.exe & procexp.exe with 2500... all the cpu readings changes every second.
i have no problem using my PC, the speed does not change, did not slow down, no virus, spyware detected, temp readings are tolerable, just that the cpu reading reads flat, even when i dont use my any application/ idle. can this be fix? im indebted to u guyz thanks

Ignore PID (Program Identification) in Process Explorer (PE). They are just numbers allocated to the process. System Idle Process, for example, is number 0 (zero).
    Process Explorer (process.exe) is #3824.

The crucial bit of PE is what are the numbers in the CPU column, of the top 5 processes.

For example, on my PC, the highest one is System Idle Process at 85-95%.

This is amount of free CPU, not being used by any other process.

When I run Spybot Search and Destroy, for example, it uses around 50% of my CPU cycles. That is why I only run it after I have logged off the Net and closed down all non-essential programs (processes).

What are your top 5 CPU users, Process (name) and approximate percentages.

I realise that they alter from time to time, in realtime, but give us a rough idea of your top 5, so we maybe able to help further. :) Bazza

since i was running my pc at normal speed, but the task manager shows the cpu usage 100% flat i first suspected a malware or virus messing up with my system or maybe a corrupted os (im hooked with xp pro sp2), so i got my extra hdd and used it as a substitue and installed afresh xp but still the cpu usage runs a flat 100%, feels so odd, kept worrying about the damage it could do to the cpu since every second it grinds itself if the usage was right on telling me its 100. however my pc didnt slow down or show sign of lagging while i do my usual routine, so i tried to change memory modules from slot to slot and so on, but the problem still exist so i avoid using my pc. one day it went to my mind to check out my bios, and i restore its default by removing the cmos batt, after a minute i put it on to restore the default and to my suprise my cpu usage now fluctuates to its normal routine, i figure that a corruption may take easy on my pc since im running a dual boot xp on it. sorry for not detailing more, got so bz lately.

It was probably a power management feature you inadvertently turned off at some point.
