How do I Repair XP and/or MS office?

I have a sand glass that continually blinks on and off. Also when I go to open a file the menu listing the drive will drop down to only disappear when trying to select a drive. I was able to fix this problem on one computer by running a repair on XP, but can not find this option while trying to fix my second computer.
Can someone help me figure what simple procedure I and over looking?

 

You can try 2 things, the 1st is go to start, run and type in sfc/ scannow. Make sure you have your XP disk in the CD Rom drive. This may take 3 or 4 times and doesn't always do the job. 2nd options is a regular repair. sfc really doesn't do its job ever. WFP does it for it, prior to you ever running it.

I'd try a cleanboot first, and see if it happens in Safe Mode.

Blind repairs many times leave people unbootable, missing data, or....yeah, unbootable.
