Sick of my Razr, sound quality is so bad. Would like a phone with a qwerty keyboard, good phone quality, ability to check my email. Anyone have a good replacement for it? Dont text much, dont care about mp3 or camera, I primarily want a good phone capable of doing the few things I mentioned. Everything I read reviews on as far as more pda style phones all seem to have so many negatives, as if no one has nailed the pda\phone right yet.... Fill me in.

I have to stick a vote in for the Vario II, not sure what it's called on your side of the pond (MDA II I think). Very briefly:

    The good:

Relatively small for a qwerty phone, about the size of a Nokia N73
Windows Mobile 5, thousands of extra applications :)
Very nice action on the qwerty keyboard.
Handles email brilliantly, including 'push' email if you set it up on your Exchange server.
VERY fast Internet if your carrier provides it, I'm using T-mobile with the unlimited package. Consistly get a 3G signal (about 30-60Kb/sec) occaisionally drop onto a 3.5G or HSDPA signal, then easily get about 150-180Kb/sec :). That's Kbytes as well!!

    The bad:
Occaisionally answer/drop a call as I pull it out of my pocket, the large touchscreen becomes active as soon as the phone rings.
Have to use the bundled headphones, the mini USB port is also the headphone port. Although it does support A2DP for stereo bluetooth but I haven't tried that yet.
Battery life will suffer if you wander around with BT and WiFi switched on. Especially if you are playing with it all day (Which I am!)

Overall, I love this phone, I originally got a Samsung flip phone but found it far too primitive for what I wanted so switched using T-Mobiles Streetcheck.

If you have any specific questions about the VarioII, let me know. Oh, you can also play Wolfenstien 3D, Quake and Doom on it! Bet your RAZR can't! :p

A phone that actually functions as a phone? That has buttons you can actually push with your fingers if you are more than 6 years of age?

I don't think they make them anymore... But you can have mine if you want, it is a good camera, but the most pitiful excuse for a phone I've ever seen!

I'd say you should go with the Sony Ericsson brand phones. All versions offer supreme sound quality and great range with tri/quad band internal antennas. Mine is a T610 Model#. That one should be very cheap right now. I think they are stylish too. You don't need to use any of the other features like I do, but just so you know... It includes email, text, voice recognition, games, calculator, notes, calendar, 30 ring tones, camera, etc. You don't need these features, but all in all it's the best phone I've ever had and it has such great sound quality. So clear and can go so loud if you want it's as if the person is there next to you. No distortion at all!

I have Nextel and love it, rarely do I have any problems and the only 2 places I have found service problems are in my kitchen (tin ceiling interferes with signal) and at my 'rents (no cell phone works there, not even cingular). Personally, i am looking at upgrading to the RIM Blackberry. has all the functions I need and I can have my palm and phone in 1 and stop carrying 2 pieces of tech on my bat belt.

Looking at Rogvalcox's thread he just started, that phone doesn't sound like a good plan anyway.

my vote is either the Cingular 8525 (for touchscreen), the Samsung Blackjack (no touchscreen). Both run WM 5, both are 3G capable. The 8525 has the slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the Blackjack has a Blackberry-style QWERTY keyboard.

Im in the same boat Tim but I have Verizon. I've been seriously considering a Treo for a while but haven't settled on it. I looked at the new Q and BlackJack phones but they are damn small and feel flimsy. I have big hands and fingers and those 2 phones are hard to use, especially the keyboards.

The Treo, while somewhat of a brick, functions nicely and is pretty durable. I saw some 650's on ebay for 150 bucks. The new 700 looks nice but is a bit pricey and im not sure if I want to get the palm or W OS...
