Jack Palance, dead at 87

I remember Jack Palance as the gunfighter in Shane (shows my age).

Youngsters will remember him as Curly in City Slickers.

R.I.P. Jack, we will remember you.

BTW: 87 (his age), is a superstitious number in Australian cricket as it is only 13 off a century.
13 being an unlucky number for some. Baz

 

I didn't know he was a boxer before an actor until I saw the story on cnn this morning.

 

Well, our youth has long since passed. But a few memories remain. A few less every year.

I remember Jack at the Oscars, was it just after City Slickers? He dropped down & started doing push-ups to show he was still in good shape... better than I could do them. LOL. He was a tough old bird.

I never knew he was a boxer either, doesn't surprise me. He was a tough looking dude.

Yep, a sad end to one of a dying breed. A true 'tough guy', and one of Hollywood's greats.

 

I would hate to be on the wrong side of Jack in a dusty town street, and two six shooters at the hip.....another legend passes us by!

At 87 he had a good innings considering he ate bacon and drank coffe at every meal

 

I missed this somehow, liked him a lot, remember him from early years also.
I had gotten part of a story a few years ago about him. Apparently he got blown up, in the war perhaps and was put back together haphazardly resulting in his unique appearance.
I really know how to tell a story huh, sorry -

According to his bio, he was badly burned bailing out of a burning B-24 during a training mission.

When I first posted, I thought it weird that I hadn't heard he passed, then I thought, "Hey, he did last year, didn't he?" Then, I thought I would check his bio and the original date of this thread. Then, I thought, "All these others are posting to this old thread, too." Then, I thought, "He musta left an impression, if people are still talking about him." Then, I thought, "My head hurts from all this thinking."

 

That was me who drug it up, I got to thinking of a couple other people here who are going through tough times, like chemo but couldn't remember the names. I didn't want to post anything to distract from the attention for Gary at this time but was still concerned for the others, so I started going through old posts and came across this. Another that was a surprise was I believe Gene Pitney? Anyway thats how it got brought up to the front. Still don't know of the others although I did see one name on lately.
