Its not, but they have done well marketing Windows as being the insecure operating system. Here are some facts for you to remember.

1: Mac is no more secure then anything else. Its not really about MAc vs PC. Check their security update list sometime, it reads like a Windows security read me. If you are in business, do you target 95% of people, or 5% of them? Simple fact, Linux, Mac, Windows, Unix, if you send and receive data, your vulnerable. Want to be safe? Do go on the internet.

2: Linux is no more secure then anything else. See above.

3: Mac is a great operating system lacking good software. Its also expensive. Most people I know who would buy a Mac, run for the hills when they see the price. Too bad they can use their billions in profit to make their "super secure" computers more readily available.

4: Linux is a pain in the butt to use and decide which release. People run for the hills usually before getting to install it.

5: Vista is pretty damn good. Sorry, too many people are running around just repeating what they have heard without using it or having a friggin clue. Use it for a couple weeks, then tell me what you think.

The commercial has a good point about the permissions, but unless you download 20 files a day, its not going to be a big bother and sadly, what they dont want to tell you is that so many morons, yes I said morons, dont get that porn and stealing software is wrong, the mass of morons have to be forewarned before they get infected. They have it sugercoated, but make no mistake, the permissions in Vista is for the vast majority of morons who just go click, click, click without a friggin clue. It would be a tough sell if they called it the moron system. "Congratulations moron, Vista will protect your dumb, click happy, porn downloading as5 from getting malware." I dont think that would work.

The majority of malware is now from porn, illegal music and movies. Drive by downloads and the like have been stopped, or slowed down by the removal of Virtual Machine and with other security measures like blocking of drive by downloads and images\attachments in email. Sadly, this has not been enough to slow the onslaught of malware, so they had to add in more security and people are complaining. Hint, disable it. Just like the Mac commercial said. If your computer savvy, this wont be a problem. Im waiting to see malware try to disable just to show how effective it really is.....

I am slowly now hearing large organizations publicly saying that Vista is pretty damn good, sadly, it will take a while for the kiddie mentality to finally admit it.

Oh, I'm aware of a lot of the technical details in the competition, I was just trying to point out how much these ads fit the definition of propaganda!

They say NOTHING about how Mac security works. The average user is left to assume that Mac is superior. They seem to be asking for a LOT of blind faith.

I can hear the people baa-ing already. All the way down the cliffside.

Out of the box, it is/was vs XP.

Less open ports, anjd a firewall that actually works. Add in the lack of activeX, lack of running as root, and you could easily see how much more secure it really was. Then mention that 99% current spyware and viruses simply dont run on the Unix based OS, and it wins by default. Its not a real security feature, but it is there, and is more secure because of it.

As for Vista...I can't really say. I can say OS X doesn't have alternate data streams running through its filesystem, though. AFAIK, Vista still does.

This is what I was wondering about! I wasn't sure about how Mac's user accounts were setup.

Similar to Vista. Anything that requires root must have username/password authentication. The root account is completely disabled out of the box and is not exactly easily enabled without prior nix knowledge.

Not quite as verbal as Vista is though. Vista goes a little hog wild on it.
