Computer apparently hates laser mice...

Hey guys, this is sort of a long post because the problem is a little extensive, but not too hard to follow.

My dad has a new custom built PC that's been working pretty well recently.

Win XP Home Edition and Biostar TForce 6100-939 motherboard

He's been surfing the web and gaming with no problems with a Microsoft wireless optical mouse. He decided to buy a laser mouse. He purchased the Logitech MX610 first. Brought it home, installed the software and it worked, but not correctly. It's a little hard to explain. It's almost like there is a really (and I mean really) small lag in the mouse. You had to try really hard to be able to click on a small button. It's not that the mouse pointer moved fast, it just seemed somehow inaccurate.

We tried it wtih the Logitech software, the Logitech software had no updates available, did all mobo updates (BIOS included). Didn't help. We uninstalled the Logitech software, and the problem continued.

He finally took the mouse back, assuming it was the mouse. A few days later he bought a Microsoft Laser 5000 (again, a wireless laser mouse). Same exact problem!

Another (minor) problem that both of them have is that if they are plugged in to USB (without the PS2 adapter), when the computer goes into standby, the mouse will not work again until the computer is rebooted. I haven't checked to see if flash drives work, (i.e. if the whole USB thing quits working), but it still puzzles me.

The latter problem is something that can be lived with... I only mentioned it because I thought they may be related.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them. I'm stumped. There is an option in the control panel for the mouse where I can change the default samples per second (100) to either 80 or 200, but don't know if that'll make a difference. I figure it should work on default settings. I've tried the new mouse with and without the included software, just like the Logitech mouse. Before the laser mice, we've used a wireless optical and a wired optical, both worked fine. It's only the laser mice giving us trouble.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Did you perchance remove the "Old Drivers" for the "Optical Mouse" when you installed the new "Laser" mouse????? Cause it sounds like your having a conflict issue. Hope that Helps
