strang error code

hi folks i hope someone can help.
i checked microsoft windows updates and was told there was an update for windows net so i hit the download that went ok but it would not install all i got was microsoft.net1.1 service pack 1 not installed the error code is 0x643 but this code is not listed on my system i have tried 4 times to download and install allways with same result.
i am not computer literate so can you help pleaseconfused

 

Go to add-remove programs, remove .net framework 2.0 (if present) and 1.1.

After that, go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en and re-download and install .net framework 1.1, and run windows update normally, hopefully all of the updates should install.

thanks gecks you suggestion seem to have worked i had net 2.0 and 1.1 installed but now all is well.
sorry it took so long to get back i had to go out yesterday evening so thanks again
