Whilst searching for torrents, I've found many in .rar format, and in order to unzip 'em, I need a password. When I try to get the password, I get attacked by malware; so I now avoid .rar torrents. My question is: I've seen other torrents where it's a 700mb file broken up into 10 files of 70mb each, with the extension .r00, .r01, .r02... what kind of format is this? Is it compressed similar to a .rar file? I generally avoid any downloads that aren't straight .avi or another obvious format. I always avoid the compressed files. Can someone shed some light on this for me????? THANX!

I believe that the breaking up of files is something that you can do in WinRAR or one of those proggies (not 100% positive on that though) and that is, I believe, how they are labeled.

    Hope that helps.

I believe they are usually just split using winrar and you can either double-click the included .rar file (there should be one) and they will all be put together or click on .r01 and that will work also.

I rarely download much in that format but sometimes HJSplit is used to split the files and the r00 extension is used to confuse. If Winrar can't put them together try HJSplit.

As far as passwords, look in the comments section before you download the torrent. Never follow a link in a text file directing you to a site for the password! My tip would be to check comments to see if there is a password needed and if not addressed in the comments, just download the .txt file of the torrent and open it to see if is trying to direct you to a questionable site.

Also joining a private torrent site is advisable, as they monitor uploaded torrents. Just share a fair amount to keep in good standing.

LOL not so fast. Like I said, I don't download many split files. I think I mixed things up. r00-r0x files should have a .rar file included. If a torrent just includes .001-.00x files you use HJSplit. (I think it was only one time, I saw the false .r01 ext.) sorry for making it sound harder than it is.
