As a win98se user I cannot run the Counter Spy or the AVG so what are my options in that department. Trying to do the malware removal as per SPYWARE REMOVAL DOWNLOADS. Thanks

CounterSpy used to support Win9x but not anymore since Win98 is really too old to be supported anymore. Try running this SUPERAntiSpyware instead and then countinue with the other steps no matter what.

Thanks Chaslang for the alternative download. Now I have an issue with the GetRunKey & the ShowNew downloads. I dowloaded as per instructions but when I went to look for files to run all I could find was GetRunKey.zip there was no .bat and the same was for ShowNew. Could this be because I'm running windows 98se and it doesn't have what I need to extract these files ? I had to use winzip to get hijack this to load so I figure that it is the problem here. I heard that there was some way to get a zip file to open in 98 but no one has ever told me the way to get-r-done. Anyone have any answers for as I want to make sure this thing is spyware free so I can work on some of its other issues. Thank you

You need to extract the files from the ZIP file just like you did with HijackThis. Yes you can use Winzip to do this. Make sure you extract ALL the files from the zip. You can extract both GetRunKey and ShowNew into the same folder without causing a problem. It is best to put the tools into a folder separate from anythings else. As suggested in the download page, try using C:\MGTools

You are going to have to explain why you are running the READ & RUN ME. Based on you logs, I see no malware problems.

However you do need to update you Sun Java version.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Allrighty then--its a good thing that I'm not infected with anything but as for the "RUN AND READ ME" running---I don't have a clue??? Maybe (just maybe) I had the window minimized when I was going through the cleaning procedure but that is highly unlikely as I followed the instructions to the letter as for not having anything running,ie internet explorer, or other programs---I'm almost positive I didn't. I'll install the new Java and maybe that will solve my issuses, but if you can tell me why the "READ AND RUN ME" was running I'll appreciate it cause I have no idea why unless I did have the window minimized. Thank you very much for your assistance and hopefully we can solve this issuse about that running if it hasn't been answerd already. I am human and I have been known to make a mistake or two---and I'm hoping it aint three lol.

Well I treid the update for Java and it stated that my system "wouldn't support it" so now what should I do ? Don't say upgrade to xp cause this old clunker won't load that ethier been there tried that !! Here are some specs that may or may not help. I'm running an old Compaq Presario 5204 with windows 98se that I installed cause I didn't like the factory crap that they give you with their restore disc.It has a AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor, 384mg RAM.and a small HD 4.311mb--everything is factory installed except the memory and the ethernet card. Any suggestions

You misunderstood my statement. I'm literally questioning why did you run the READ & RUN ME procedure. There was no evidence of malware and you did not tell us what problems you were having. (You still haven't!)

    What issues?

If you uninstalled your old Sun Java version, you should be able to reinstall it from the below link:

Ok and yes I did misunderstnd your question. The 2nd link worked so now I'm squared away on the Java issue. As for why I posted to start with--well I wanted to make sure I wasn't having malware issues before I went and posted anything else. I had posted a couple things in the software forums about my issues and now that I know everything is ok as far as malware I'll continue my quest for results there. In short I'm havin like this .dll file missing and I've ran file checker--downloaded the file thought it installed--went into DOS mode---yeah I'm not havin too much fun--But anyways I'll see you in the software side maybe. Thanks for the help.
