    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

I'm going to post two sets of instructions below. Each will be enclosed in separate Quote boxes. Make sure to complete the first one 100% before moving on to the second one.

ATTACH THE FIRST LOG NOW BEFORE CONTINUING OR YOU WILL OVERWRITE IT!!!! And then immediately continue on to the below steps.

If the above steps do not help resolve your problems, continue on to do all of the below.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

You're welcome. Okay it looks like SmitFraudFix fixed some problems. You should attach the other 6 logs now from the READ & RUN ME procedure so we can be sure you are clean.

Please download and install and get a new log using the current version of GetRunKey from the link in the READ & RUN ME. You did not run it properly or you may have received one of the errors mentioned in the READ & RUN ME. Be sure to check whether you get any of the mentioned error messages.

Uninstall CounterSpy now since we no longer need it.

Are your copies of Ewido and Spy Sweeper paid versions or free trials. If free, you should uninstall to avoid conflicts with Ad-Aware's Ad-watch.

Is the below utorrent.exe file something you installed recently? Some of the scans question its validity.
I doubt you installed it since I see the below service which is not really a Microsoft Service

    O23 - Service: Microsoft Corporation - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\utorrent.exe

Unintsall the below old Sun Java version
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0

Do you still have any software from Symantec installed? If not, uninstall the below
    LiveUpdate 2.0 (Symantec Corporation)

Delete the below files detected by the scanners
    C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\AVG.Anti-Virus.Professional.v7.5.423.810.Incl.Keygen-SSG.rar\Windows.Genuine.Crack.exe
    E:\bsplayer142.833.exe
    E:\dvd2svcd\D2S123B1.exe

    Hello again.

    I uninstalled: J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 , LiveUpdate 2.0 (Symantec Corporation)

Deleted all the files u mentioned.

I couldn’t find the utorrent.exe file anywhere (deep searched).
Also cant find the "Spy Sweeper" program you refer to.

I still have installed a few security programs:
Avg 7.5 free (with XP Firewall)
    Nod32 2.7 (non-free)
Adaware SE Pro 1.05 + Ad Watch (non-free)
    CounterSpy 1.5.82 (non-free)
    EasyCleaner 2.0
    CCleaner 1.32.345
    Spybot 1.4
    Ewido 4.0

When u say Ewido conflicts with AdWatch – what if I install the Ewido Security Suite 3.5, only to run occasional checks?

What about my anti-virus software – which should I leave on? Should I get another software altogether? Is the XP Firewall good enough? Could u please recommend me on the best anti-virus software available? Best anti-malware/spyware?
    Much appreciated!!

Attached is a new GetRunKey log, according to the instructions.

    Thanks again for everything!
Hope to hear from y real soon :)

The service is still there and the file could still be hidden from you. Windows search is not a good way to look for hidden files. And since you never did step 2 of the READ & RUN ME properly, you would probably not see it if you used Windows Explorer to look for it too.

It shows in your HJT log!

    My comments.
    • The Windows firewall is totally inadequate.
    • Your Ad-Aware SE Pro version is out of date. You need to update to the current version of the program which is version 1.06.
    • Uninstall CounterSpy as I already requested or uninstall Ad-Aware SE Pro 1.05 since it is out of date. You should not have multiple realtime blockers installed. They will conflict and make each less effective and could make it difficult to fix malware problems.
    • The same applies to Ewido. It is still running a service and wasting valueable system resources which is slowing your PC down.
Based on you logs you only have NOD installed anything else is broken/not truly running even though showing in your HJT log.

This is a highly debated topic with no clear answer. As far as antivirus is concerned NOD32 is good. Is it the best??? Not necessarily. But since you already bought it why pay more money for another. If you don't like it, try one of the free tools mentioned here in step 2: How to Protect yourself from malware!

    Let's fix your problems!
    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Microsoft Corporation
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/pasteMicrosoft Corporation into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.
Start by downloading a tool we will need - Pocket KillBox

Save it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG7_CC] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgcc.exe /STARTUP
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpySweeper] "C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe" /0
    O23 - Service: Microsoft Corporation - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\utorrent.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
    • select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    • Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
    • Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\utorrent.exe
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    Hello again.

I went back to step 2 in READ & RUN ME, and unchecked another option I missed.

There might have been a couple of changes from what u saw in the HJT log, since I installed and uninstalled certain programs while waiting for your response.

I took your advice and uninstalled Counterspy.
Also upgraded to Ad-Aware SE Pro 1.06 , and got Kerio Personal Firewall .v4.2.3 .
Didn’t install them yet, as to do everything step by step and avoid these confusions we had.

I still need your advice for Anti-Virus: AVG free , NOD 32 or Avast free.

I did all of the steps u instructed me to do – fully.
In the Microsoft Corporation stage – it was already stopped.
In the HJT – it didn’t ask me to reboot and I only found the first 2 entries u mentioned. also now, AVG wont come up at startup so I need to do it manually.
In the Killbox - it didn’t paste the filename from the clipboard, so I put it manually in the yellow field (full path…).

I'm attaching the logs u asked for.

While waiting for your response, I will install the new programs.

Thank you again for all your help. Don’t know what I would do without it!

    addition:

I've installed AdAware Pro 1.06 and Kerio Firewall.
The new Firewall stops my eMule from performing right. Please advise me on how to configure it right.

    Thanks.

You seem to be ignoring step 3 of the READ ME. You must never have multiple antivirus applications installed at the same time. It can totally mess up Windows Security Center, it will make each less effective, and it is a massive drain on system resources. Based on you last logs you had NOD32 and AVG7.5 installed. One must go now! If you actually purchased NOD32 and you pay for yearly updates and plan to continue to do so than keep it. If you did not buy it or don't plan to pay for updates, uninstall it and keep AVG free.

You need to attach current logs (same as in message # 10) to show be your actual status now after doing the above.

As far as eMule is concerned, you need to allow it to have access thru your firewall just like you will need to do for any program the needs internet access. If you block it in the firewall, it will not work. This is standard operating procedure for any firewall. Did you purchase Kerio? Did you purchase Ad-Aware Pro 1.06?

    hi

    i uninstalled NOD32.
the Kerio Firewall doesnt let u add exceptions (as far as i can tell), but when i reinstalled it in expert mode it handled eMule much better, without any intervention on my part.

i'm attaching new logs as u requested.

Before starting on the below fixes, shutdown Ad-Aware's Ad-watch program to avoid it possibly getting in our way.

Download HOSTER and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster
    • Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program
Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\oreans32.sys
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. ShowNew
    2. HJT
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    hello again.

    everything ran smoothly.
a minor thing was that i have IE7, so it was a bit different. on that matter - I saw that it's recommended to use firefox instead of IE. is that still relevant with IE7?

I'm attaching the logs as requested.

should I do the system restore thing now?

    thank u very very much!

    You're welcome.

Yes FireFox is still recommended but that does not mean that you cannot use IE. In fact you will need IE on some sites. One site where IE is still need is Microsoft Update. I use IE safely all the time, FireFox is just recommend because it has fewer security issues and is attacked less frequently by malware and it also had a built-in popup blocker. So for some people who are not as careful as they should be, it could be somewhat safer to use FireFox. IE7 has improved on IE6 even though many people don't like IE7.

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    hellow again :)

I've done all of the deletions.
I understand Hoster, Killbox and HJT should be left on my HD.

THANK U AGAIN FOR YOUR WISDOM.
DONT KNOW WHAT I HAD DONE WITHOUT YOUR HELP!

    WISH U ALL THE BEST.

    You're welcome.

Yes those three applications are good to keep around; however, always check to make sure you have the current versions if the need arises to use them again. These tools do change. Some change more frequently than others.
