I'm running WinXP Pro, SP2, w/ the latest ForceWare drivers (93.71) for my FX5700LE AGP video card. I can't get the SVideo to work. I've followed the NVidia website directions and asked numerous people for info. It seems I'm doing everything right: my TV has an SVid port (4pin), of course my AGP card has an SVid port (also 4pin), I've tried 2 different SVid cables, the TV has an SVid on/off button (which I've pushed 100's of times) and the TV also has an antenna switch (4 positions: I've tried 'em all!).... I've even tried going to channel 2, 3, and 4. I don't have cable TV (only cable internet). Why can't I get my PC video to display on the TV??????

The only reason I need to use the TV is because my CRT is bit too dark to watch movies on...... H E L P ! ! !

    morning Dave

Have you ever displayed S-video on your TV from another source?

Many camcorders have S ouput these days. A friend..........

You can increase the gamma temporarily to brighten the CRT.

have you tried going into the nvidia control panel thingy and setting up a dual connection? If you go into Nvidia's control panel you can set it up for a tv using an s-video cable. I did it once but the picture was horrible so I just bought a new lcd.

I haven't tried a different SVid to TV device (like a camcorder). I don't have anything w/ an SVid out. And I have tried the NVidia control panel: dual display- TV first, CRT second/CRT first, TV second. I've tried TV only. It doesn't work. When it's set for TV only, the CRT does go black, but nothing comes up on the TV. Should I lower my resolution or refresh rate? It's at 1024x768 @ 85 hertz right now. The AGP card is relativeley new, but the TV isn't. Maybe the SVid port on either the TV or the AGP card is dead.

Hey Augie: how would I go about adjusting/increasing the gamma? I messed with the RGB settings once on a different CRT and screwed up the picture. And what about the 'K' numbers? Where it says it's at 1150K or 975K or whatever? What the heck is that?

OOOOPS! I'm getting off topic here ;) Thanx for your help guys!

Here ya go Dave, hope it helps. I have a new LCD so ignore those settings. Write down what you have first and then restore those settings if/when needed. BTW, don't go nuts on increasing the gamma as the CRT may not take it or at least poorly.

    To test your telly

If you can jury rig connections as follows you will get a monochrome picture via the composite otput from some video or video game or something. You can't cause damage by this test.

Connect the centre pin of the RCAplug to the luminance on the S-Video and the outer to the Luminance ground. Ignore the other two connectors. The picture views the S-Vid from the pin side with the peg at the bottom.

K numbers refer to degrees kelvin, a measure of temperature stating with zero at absolute zero and with the same size of degrees as centigrade.

In physics when a standard body is heated it gives off light, the hotter the body (in degrees Kelvin) the 'whiter' the light, so if you heat iron in a furnace it passes from red hot to white hot.
K numbers are used in illumination engineering to mean the temperature in degrees kelvin of a standard physics body that would give off light of the same colour as the bulb. It is also used in photography to describe the characteristics of the light a film is for (daylight, tungsten electric, flourescent etc) or the colour filter to needed to correct for the 'wrong' source.

Chat up the local photography shop for more info.

Great info and thanx for the pics!!! So- if I turn up the Kelvin numbers, the picture will get brighter? My CRT is great for std PC stuff, but gaming and movies (esp in night-time scenes or shadow filled scenes) is too dark. Thanx again for all the great info. I'll mess around with it and I'll post me results!
And, THANX AGAIN!!!! (I know- a bit repetative ;) )

All is well! I got the SVid to work (finally). There's another panel of switches that was kind of hidden behind a little door; in that panel is a button for TV/Video. Push that button and PRESTO!!! I was also able to brighten up the CRT via NVidia's brightness control in the NVidia Control Panel (thanx Auggie!!!)...
