Have been trying to free up space on hard drive and came across hundreds of these files ($NTUninstallKB......) in the Windows folder. The're in blue color. Is it safe to zap them with CCleaner or what? Thanks. Ken

    Hi

Yes you can, but as these files are all the MS updates and hotfixes that have been installed, if you remove them then you will not be able to rollback and remove one if it is causing issues on your PC, so if your not having issues then the choice is yours to keep or delete.

You can use this small app form Doug Knox in removing those http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm

    A suggestion.
Before you remove them using Halo's link, posted earlier, why not back them up to a USB stick, or CD, or DVD. That way you can load them back into the Folder-sub Folder where they were originally stored, if you need to. Bazza

May not work Bazza as Dougs application removed the registry entries associated with those $NTuninstall files, and most likely if you remove those files then your registry cleaner if have/run may flag left overs as unused reg entries and remove anyway.

so if your going to backup you would have to do the registry and the files, new downside with backing up the registry to keep these intact to restore and run as they are now is your registry changes daily/weeky/monthly with new files and various installed/removed software, so restoring a regback up could kill other software.

If space is at a premium then delete fully and be done with them, especially if your PC is running fine, but it you have a large HD with plenty of free space then leave for now until space become less that 10%.
