I saw Blood Diamond, starring Leonardo Di Caprio, yesterday.
Actually I saw it twice in the last week, one time each with my 2 sons.
    They work different shifts.

I worked in Sierra Leone from '92-'94 and both my sons visited me there in 1993.
The civil war was happening then, but not where we were fortunately.

It really hotted up in '95 with the rebels kidnapping some of the staff I knew at the mine where I worked, and at a nearby mine, and holding them captive for 3 months..

Some links to Blood Diamond movie if you are interested.

I thought Di Caprio and the black actor (who also starred in Amistrad) were both great.
DVD to be released in OZ soon apparently. :major

Black Snake Moan. Didn't quite make it all the way there, but still a surprisingly good movie, all things considered.

OMG.... It's been so long since I went to a theater, I'm not even sure, but I think it was chronicles of narnia.

300, an awesome movie about the Battle of Thermopylae, Spartan oligarchy society, and the Greek king Xerxes. Good for me anyway, being an ancient history freak. Also a book, of the same name, by Frank Miller.

Narnia was pretty good, but that was a while ago. The Queen was okay. Blood Diamond and 'Last King of Scotland', about former dictator of Uganda, Idi Amin Dada, were also notable.

Combination of the old and the new comic book heroes. My boy enjoyed it, no sceens of extreme gore, so kid friendly.

    Saw 2
I harassed my hubby to take me to the 7.30pm session - we rarely go to the movies - and I fell asleep before the end.:(

Prefer to watch them on DVD in my nice warm bed and pillows and being able to pause it to walk to my fridge if i need a snack or make a nice hot cuppa. Ahhhh...

I saw 300. Didn't like it much. Packed up with historic mistakes and too much blood. But I guess I'm a bit of an exception. It was an impressive movie and I would have liked it if I wasn't Greek.
I could rant on it a little bit more but I would sound like a fat chauvinist pig :D.

Oops!, I screwed up in my haste rolleyes . Xerxes was the Persian king invading the Greek city States. (T/Y, Sailor, I was actually wondering what you thought of this flick - 'Freudian' slip, maybe?).

I hear you about the historical aspects. Bit like me, being born in England and watching Zulu, (original). A lot of discrepancies with known history, but still a pretty riveting movie, i.m.o.

Re: Snotagain:- I did see SawII a while back, and managed to get through it. I’m not usually squeamish, but some of the things, like that pit of hypodermic syringes that she fell into made me shiver a little.

Watching this movie for any historical content seems silly. Its based on a comic book...which in turn was based on an event in history in which nobody has clear details on what exactly happened.

Historically correct? Of course not ;)

    Its not a documentary :p

Last one for me was Jarhead.

Slight rip off of Full Metal Jacket (Greatest.Movie.Ever.) but still very good.

I like when other people who have seen Jarhead complain, saying things like "I thought that was supposed to be a War movie." It cracks me up.
