My Compaq Presario R3000Z has died AGAIN. HP replaced the systemboard twice and the HDD once. When I get it back from their service center it works for a few days then dies again. Are the power supply and Power ON/OFF switch part of the systemboard on a notebook? If so they have both been changed two times. When I press the Power ON/OFF button nothing happens. No LEDs, no sound of the HDD spinning up. Total silence. After changing the systemboard twice and the HDD what's left to change? HP has it at their service center again. This is the 5th time for the same problem.

try pulling the battery and see if it responds...
But usually everything is on the board, switches, ports, just the screen, kb, hdd, and cd are FRU (replaceable).

I'd tell them "This PC is a lemon as you well know, replace it, or I will be contacting Consumer Affairs". If this doesn't work, go to one of your local TV Current Affair programs, and tell them of the history of your PC. They can usually get results. Bazza

    PS: Almost forgot to mention.

Bazza makes a good point. I would like to add a little bit to it. If you call them, do not deal with the first person, tell them you have a problem, and you would like to speak to their manager/supervisor. Be firm, but be polite. Have your info in front of you (dates, invoice numbers...). Explain your problem, and let them know you are not satisfied. Do not lose your temper, the first one to lose their temper usually looses. They will get the idea you are frustrated and angry. If that does not work, ask to speak to their supervisor and repeat...

    Good luck. Welcome to MajorGeeks!
