My problem is with my home network. For about a year now (possible longer), I have to power cycle the router due to all the computers having limited access. (Meaning no one could surf to the internet.) Each time I have power cycle the router and it starting work again. At first it was every 3-4 weeks. Now its almost daily. First, I thought it was a my router, so I replaced the router. I went through the malware clean up process (see above link). They recommend me posting.

Other things I have tried. Talking with Road Runner tech help guys, they suggested that I run only one computer and at time to see if one of the computers are flooding the router. I actually thought it was my daughters computer, but the newest thing was all the computers were turn off last night. However, this morning I had to power cycle the router in order to get connected to the internet. I also had a tech come out to the house, they check the cable line, the modem and the connection history of the modem. According to them everything on their side of the fence is running correctly. The didn't show any loss of connection with my cable modem, I had specific dates and time for them.

My home network consist of 2 computers wired to the router (computer A is newly bought computer using onboard lan connection and second computer is using SMC NIC.) Three or four devices connecting wireless. (1 laptop Dell and 1 computers using DWL-520 d-link wireless card and Wii console.) This problem has been going on prior to getting the Wii console.

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

If your having problems with the wii, i was told by a friend that channels 1 or 2 work best with the wii and are the recommended channels to use by Nintendo, don't know how accurate this is but worth the try.

hmmmm....no the wii works fine. And tell your find that Nintendo recommends using channel 11.

I only mention the Wii cause I have been having this network problem prior to the release of the Wii. Read that as I have rule out the Wii as being the cause of my network issues.

    Hey SpiderWiz...

I was having the same problems with my Linksys home router (ie: having to power cycle 2x or more per day to allow systems hooked to it to access internet).

Of course when I contacted Linksys they basically told me that my router was over 2 yrs old and that they would not help me as my warranty was up but that I could buy a brand new router and then they would help me (dontcha love how product tech support has a shelf life now??)

What seemed to work for me was a few small tweaks to my settings and a downgrade of the firmware to a previous version (for some reason the latest firmware could not handle the hardware properly!!). If you are still having these problems, let me know and I can walk u through the tweaking to see if it helps...

Yeah I'm still working on this issue. According to Netgear (http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n100772.asp), they recommend disabling the Windows XP firewalls. So I went to each PC and turn off the firewall. Go to give that a shot. I was concerned about turning off the firewall but Netgear claims their firewall is better protection.

Oh the firmware was the default was already at latest (came from factory that way.) What types of tweaks did you make?

Well the XP firewalls I have run into really cause more problems than they solve. Turning them off might help your situation. Just make sure that they are disabled so they don't come back on if you have to reboot any of the systems. Also, remind each xp not to nag you about the firewalls being off.

You might also want to try & find a copy of a previous firmware for your router. Sometimes upgrading the firmware causes problems rather than solving them.

Did you have this problem before you updated the firmware for your router??

Other than that, maybe try a software firewall if you absolutely can't get the router to play nice....

Yeah I disabled the windows firewall.

The netgear router is fresh from the package, I didn't upgrade the firmware. I had linksys prior which I did update the firmware. But I was have problems prior to updating the firmware and then replacing it. (I'm not currently using the linksys router.)
