    Pick the brains time.
Can anyone give the rundown on the problems, with x64 drivers -
I suppose the question arises because of fitting a sata controller card to give 4 extra ports (e-sata) to a motherboard which has sata, but not enough ports.
Raid is not wanted, in any form, just to connect storage drives externally, (300gb each ?), but several of them.
Having fitted a card, which I think might be x32bit, we are concerned that the driver might be/ or, will cause issues.
This is the SATA card that was purchased

If you can help we would appreciate it. Please keep replies to this thread, as the other thread is already near, if not record breaking.

I have a question right off the bat.

The X32 SATA port card didn't come with a disk for the X64 OS. Do I need to download drivers for it? I found this link.

That driver was for 32 bit - it was in the pdf file inside zip file.

I Googled "X64 SATA card driver" and it said X64 in the search result name. I didn't go any further than opening the link.

I read through the specs for the SATA card again. shanemail found the card for me so I didn't doubt that it was good for a X64 OS, and it is (good, that is). The specs say:

Good. so, it would seem that the sata controller card is fully compatable, from pci-e slot,32/64 BIT, and PCI slot 32 BIT.
As I said when the computer crashed, it is a shame you had not been able to test the psu in another computer, or, have it tested. Looks very much like that start button.
For other 64 bit users this is a start - a 64 bit compatable sata controller
    card.

    :highfive
Anyone out there found more compatable hardware/drivers for 64 bit ?

The only question that remains is where to get the drivers for it.

That may not be the driver for this, but take it as an example from the page -
    Apparently,
XP x64, has some drivers that will work , natively, so Iwould wait, and see, once card is installed.

You did a lot of research and came up with a lot of useful information.

What do you think of installing the SATA card this way: Install it, go into Device Manager, choose the SATA card, click on Properties, and let it find new drivers on its own?

It should find drivers as Windows starts up.
You will be able to update a driver from the Device manager.
I have seen a couple of postings, around, where add in cards have caused corruption, like yours appeared to. Personally, I would think twice about using it, again, others have reported corrupted usb connections- not with your card, but addin cards but......
I know this will sound over the top, but, I wonder, if you have a small spare hard drive, to install a copy of your XP on ?
If you could then put the sata card in, and see if it corrupts that system, then if it does not, reconnect your normal hard drive, and install it.- Might save you losing the updated drive contents, and time.

I've also been feeling kind've leary about putting it back in. It could have been coincidence but the PSU, floppy drive and poewr up button all went at the same time. That's a pretty big coincidence.

Except for the broken external hd, I have 100G external hdd. It's too small for me to use. Do you think that, if I take it out of its case, that it'll fit into the case correctly?

    You also see my point.
I am concerned that the card has not caused damage to the motherboard, but I did not want to say it. It should not, but, ask that question on your other string - someone else might know more. If no-one sees a problem, I would then try it in the 100gb. If the external hd will fit in the case, o.k.
If it will not then you could try it as master drive, externally, but I suggest that in either case, disconnect your present internal hard drive.- wait for other comments, first.
