I am researching laptops and have read much info found here on MG.

I found one that is a possibility and C-Net gives it great reviews (Toshiba Tecra A6) but the only negative they say is that it has an "integrated housing media bay".

They give suggestions of a couple other laptops that have a "plug-in module media bay".

Could someone tell me what these terms mean and what difference it would make to get the Toshiba integrated one?

    Thanks

I'm not sure about the media bay, but I know that Toshiba makes a quality laptop! Probably the best 'mass produced' laptops available. And by all means: stay AWAY from Gateway! (just my opinion formed after repairing many PC's).

I did a little research about the media bay: I may be off base here, but it seems to have something to do with having memory dedicated for video and multimedia applications versus sharing the memory with all other processes. Again, this is a guess from some real quick research. The only real reference I could find to integrated media bays was in several different CNet reviews, and they never fully explain what the heck they're talking about...

I know they don't explain their terms -- ugh.

Thanks for the research. I've been keeping the "dedicated memory / non-shared" memory in mind when I look at specs...didn't think it was the same thing but it could be.
