It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?

Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!

Shutdown your computer on this day and find out!

Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?

i must be missing the point? yes i could easily go without my puter, but to what purpose? companies might rely on them, but individuals dont.

People in at least my dorm are assuming "computers" means desktops/laptops, which means we can play consoles all day. :D Then again, since it'll probably be warm we'll have to start a whiffleball game or something. That is, if there aren't a ton of things going on outside already.

Some days, I don't even think about looking at my computer at home. THen again, I spend 12 hours in front of this one here at work, so why should I?? LOL

Strikes me as dumb, we're not talking cigarettes here.

I manditorily use one at work, I use on at home to relax, always have since the late 70's.

Shutdown for one day? Easy. Big world out there with lots to do and friends to enjoy.....the body wasn't designed to sit in a static position for hours on end. Much as I rely heavily on computers for work, research, communication and some enjoyment, it can't beat the outdoors and enjoying the active company of friends. Balance is good....my laptop will be snuggly tucked away on the 24th.:cool

This will be a good incentive for me to start reading that book I picked up last week. I spend way to much time reading digg.

I know I popped over to the web site and saw someone saying that at work he cannot but at home he can. I can relate to this as well. If I turned my computer off at work I'd have to take the day off! (like they'd let me!) :-D

I just realized that the 24th is a Saturday which I don't work weekends unless it's really necessary. :)

Some people just can't go without their computers - just like some people can't do without a cigarette. Computers like smoking can be addictive.

I manditorily smoke at work, I smoke at home to relax , always have since the 70's.! :D

There is a huge difference between cigarettes and computers, unless your talking about the letter C. I LIKE my computer, always have, long before internet (and BBSes), so I really don't have an incentive.

While your doing whatever I'll be here on MG, the major and I will be enjoying our microscopically faster connection.

Smiles, I forgot about it and did what most people did - used my computer, according to responses @ shutdownday, used my computer was the winner.

I logged-in here, looked the same as any weekend Sat., did not notice any change in speed, but only a huge decrease in users would have been noticeable I think :).

    Hope that helps,

    Cat
