I enjoy those type of movies....must check it out.

My old favourites are still Kirk Douglas' "Spartacus" which I think is a classic with some wonderful actors of old fame (Olivier, Curtis, Laughton, Simmons, Ustinov); and "Gladiator" - loved the character portrayed by Russell Crowe.

I intend too see it. My kids have told me it's a good flick. But . . . .

. . . I just gotta say, it's not 100% accurate. There were actually around 1300 soldiers there . . . 1000 troops from Thespia stayed, fought, and died with the 300 from Sparta . . . but they are forgotten in this movie.

Still, a story of few against many . . . Hollywood takes it's usual liberty with reality, and this is something we all must remember Hollywood does . . .

True. Few movies where Hollywood "sticks to the real story"....came close with "Troy" with Brad Pitt (I know the ladies would remember :drool :p this story taken from a section of Homer's "The Illiad").

The movie isn't based on a true story.

Its based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller, which was loosely based on history. A lot gets lost between the two.

Also, history is not certain with exactly how many Spartans it was, merely that they were vastly outnumbered.

Who is this lussigagas? He's posted that exact quote in the first post in tech areas on another site several times now. confused

EDIT: Hahaha, he's a tireless spammer and all over google. Strange thing is he doesn't leave a link to anything.

It was 300 Spartans, but most people forget/never knew was that 1500 other Greeks stayed to help fight to cover the retreat.

And better yet, what most people really don't know is that Xerxes burned Athens to the ground anyway. The courageous stand did nothing beyond delay the Persian empire for 3 or 4 days.

Sorry, my bad. The numbers were uncertain on how big the persian army was.

yeah. all that is known is that Xerxes fielded the largest army the world had ever seen to that point.
