I need info on motherboard testing without a case. In other words,
I'm having problems testing a motherboard without a case or the
    power/reset/hdd headers attached to anything.

Ideally, I would like a device with LEDs on it to plug into the
motherboard header and be able to power on and off just as if the
    case were fully zipped up.

I believe the part for the case is called an LED yoke or harness. At one time I saw them listed but it was for OEMs and only avaialbe as an import in quantities of
    10,000 for case manufacturers.

Why not just take an old crappy computer and setup a test bed? The power and reset and headers are marked where they go on the mobo and it doesn't take that long to slap a mobo in case. If you don't have it in a case with standoffs then you risk frying the mobo which would be very bad. Just my opinion though.

I don't have any spares but I keep an eye on the curb and the dumpsters. :)

Another source said that just shorting the pins on the power header would get the thing going. I'm going to use a test lead to try that.

I'm not someone who does this stuff all the time. But occassionaly I get some gear passed down to me.
