I dont know if I'm embarrased to say its took me unti 27 to not care about my trainers 'sneakers' or whether its one of the final hurdles towards old age,I dont care about shoes as long as they dont look stupid but trainers are different my previous couple of pairs were in the 50 quid range reeboks or Nikes but I'v just bought a great pair of 'walking':D for £12 and they are fine :)

    Opinions?

My last Nike's I got in the sale at Fred Meyer's for $15 (7.5 quid) and this pair I just bought of Nike running shoes I got at Big 5 for $40 (20 quid). The UK is just a rip off for brand named goods anyway, I never bought brand names there.

If you are just going to "live" in them, anything will do. If you are going to workout in some way, shape or form, get a decent supportive pair deisnged for the activity you plan to do. My 2c..... but then again, I live in the Nike capital :D

thank god for small mercies. people here dont care, and mostly dont even know what the 'labels' are. when my two oldest were growing up in england, we had countless arguments over this subject. my nephew has been 'mugged' for his shoes twice now. i dont know how parents are supposed to keep up with it all. here its 'slippahs' (flip-flops) or bare foot!

It's a big name, I guess, but my Doc Marten's have lasted FOREVER, and they're SO comfortable.

    I don't think I'll own anything else.

Yeh I guess my question extends to all brand name stuff,I dont mind not having a brand name its wearing really cheap brand names the cheesy ones like 'walking' written along the side and looking like the old guy who doesnt care anymore:D

Lucky you, i go through Dm's at one helleva rate. It takes me a year to break them in so they are comfortable. they last 6 months more then the soles crack and the uppers get holes. Fifth pair I dumped and now i wear ECCO's. Hmm think thats how you spell it. they are good, but lack the toecaps I need to stop students putting a mattock through my foot on excavations.

Well I'm all for Nike (they just paid us $80,000 for one of our systems) so god bless 'em!

Wouldn't pay more than £10 ($20) for trainers though.

Red Wings are the brand of choice around my house. Last pretty good and they are pretty comfortable. Like them a lot more than Doc's. I tend to rot the insides out before the out sides were out though, and that annoys me for some reason.

Hey be careful now Rikky I really like you, but you have to remember us "Old Farts" have feelings tooLOL The reason we don't give a Dang, is because the biggest Jerk can wear Gold, well the nicest person in the world may just walk around in Cotton. To me it's the person in the shoes that counts not the name on them. Okay, Okay this "Old Fart" will go back to his corner now.:cool :p

I go for size first, comfort and looks second. I wear a USA 15 so it's near impossible to find anything that fits. I usually go for basketball shoes since I need the ankle support and I'll wear them every day for at least two years. I'm coming up on the two year mark for my Jordon's ($129.99) and I'll be needing a new pair this fall. The hunt is on!

My daughter's boyfriend recently paid $220(A) for the latest Nike TN's!! I certainly wouldn't pay it, it's obscene. But all the young people get suckered in, with usually the parents footing the bill. They obviously must be cheaper overseas? Me, I'm with Ricky, as long as they don't look ridiculous with cheap brand names emblazoned over them I'll wear them :cool or I'll buy brand name shoes on sale. Comfort is a big thing too.

Personally, I don't always go for brand names, I go for what looks good and feels good. Th onyl thing i shop for 'brand names' on is my boots. And those brand names are Magnum and Rocky and the like. :)

I find that I can get comfy, stylish shoes, sneakers (aka Tennis shoes or trainers) for daily wear at Payless for $20US or less.

PS: Sheesh, posting from work, it only took me about an hour to type this post out :)

I don't go for brand names either - never saw much sense in it . . . except in the rare cases where brand name = higher quality - and that was usually in the work-shoe area.

Before I married my wife, I had exactly three pairs of footwear (not counting my hunting pac-boots) . . . boots, tennis-shoes, and my "dress" shoes . . . now I'm afraid to guess . . . she likes to buy shoes, I guess.

I also have three watches . . . who needs three watches?

I wear hikers for 8 months of the year full time, then for hiking or biking in the summer. I spend fifty to seventy bucks on them. Runners mostly for the summer though, under fifty bucks, or sandals. Gotta be comfortable and look reasonable.

I just go for whatever is comfortable, last, and is cheap, in that order of priority. Mind you, I prefer not to look like a "dick" in them as well. :D

Dress shoes, I've has a few Florsheim's that have served me well. Doctor Martin boots have lasted me ages (for those that want "a spot of bover!", LoL!). Trainers - I've Nikes, which have been good, but then again, I've had some ;brand - X', ones that have been just as good, and far cheaper.

Everyone wil have different tastes/reasons for footwear. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose. As long as they are not hurting my feet, and protecting them from stones, puddles and such, I'm happy.

Let me guess! You still frequently run late? roflmao

The only think I hate more than shopping, is shopping for shoes...

I go to the same store since 15 years ago, and I buy the same shoes over and over again. Not a brand known to mankind, but they fit my feet. And I don't have to go searching for something! :D The shoes get resoled (blast, spelling???) a few times, till leather is worn out so much after a few years, I tend to get extra air holes, then it is time for a new pair! :D

my theory about brand name products is that you can pay so much for quality an after that you are paying for the name.
for example you can buy a Toyota car or a Rolls Royce i can see the Rolls is better quality but can you justify the price difference or is it just a statement of wealth:cool

Yeah, I had a friend who used to do the same, and TBH, my first pair did as well... I then learned to watertreat them, and they've since been golden.

That looks like a good tip. I would like to use DM's, but there are just to many quality 'issues' with them nowerdays. i am basically happy going other routes, although the lack of toecaps is irritating.

I’m size 16 now, used to be a 15 USA….getting older, and more weight on the body….I have two pair of tennis shoes, one pair of dress, but I only worn them seven times, since they were bought five years ago….since I have large feet most would have to be ordered, but I don’t have that kind of money….If I’m wearing sandals, I can get by with size 14’s from wal mart, but not their shoes….we do have a large factory outlet here, and about every two to three years, I can find one or two pair that fit, and fit my wallet….some of those shoes that cost $150. or more, and have something wrong with em…….mostly you’ll find me in the sandals, shorts, and a tee-shirts year round.....wobbles

The only time I wore sneekers or maybe they were tennis shoes then, was in JR. High, at that time you, rather I, got in trouble for it. Probably why I did it. Me and a few others would have people sign them like an autograph book.
