Question bout dvds/hddvd/blu ray

I buy a lot a lot of movies; I collect almost anything! cards,movies,games etc. Before I go crazy buying movies I wanna know something. HD is HD to me u know? Ive seen blu ray and honestly it's something I wouldnt go cry to mom about. I was wondering if I took a dvd on a 1080p tv would it play in somewhat hd resolution? Cuz I cant really tell a difference from 720p and 1080p they both look really good to me. I do like blu ray but i wanna know what right move to make on this.

 

DVDs aren't gonna play any better on a HD tv, because the disc itself is still standard definition. You'd need a HD dvd/bluray dvd and then a bluray/hd dvd player.

 

I actually have all 3 standards connected to my HDTV using a HDMI switch. I have cycled throught the different standards an see the difference.

The difference between a standard DVD even when upscaled with a Upscaling DVD palyer and HD DVD or Blu-RAY is " night and day." The HD dvd and Blu-ray Picture quality is so much superior!

Keep in mind that a standard DVD is recorded in 480 P resolution while HD and Blu Ray is 1080, so inherently it is much better.
On a HD display, a standard definition source will look awful becuase all the pixels in HD sets have been "extrapolated? from neighboring pixels...
So when you view a SD video, you will often think that it actually looks worse then your good old CRT set.

 

Man Now I have to wait a good few years for the price of blu ray to drop! I honestly think blu ray will win this one. DVD sounded awesome. You would say hey pop in the DVD or movie. Just HDDVD doesnt have a catchy name as Blu ray. Blu ray haha sounds so future for the genre itself! But yeah thanks for the info.
