Ok I'm fixing a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 and for some reason the sound doesn't work. I have updated the sound drivers, motherboard drivers, BIOS, and Direct X to the latest versions. Also I have run Spybot, AdAware, CCleaner, Norton AntiVirus, went through the whole Microsoft help, checked Toshiba's site, and defraged the HDD. Any ideas on why the sound refuses to work? The only thing I can think of is that the speakers are shot. I haven't checked is if headphones do anything because there aren't any around here. This computer runs Win XP Pro SP2.

I suggest you buy a pair of headsets and see if that helps.

I take it that you've checked the obvious and made sure that the sound isn't muted?

Ok so the Mute tick box isn't checked under Sounds and Audio devices And under the advanced tab of the same (which brings up Play Control). So now look under the Advanced tab of Play Control and check that the 1 digital output Only is ticked (but try it both ways as I'm not sure of your set up.
