bought a logitech camera (Qcam communicate STX) and tried to install it on my windows me/256 ram old laptop. at the point when it asks me to plug the camera into the usb port i do and nothing happens.

i have re\installed, contacted their willing customer service and had suggestiond like installing the camera drivers directly from the logitech folder or tweaking the device manager.

    nothing has worked.......any ideas? thanks

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode and removing every reference to the camera in the device manager before trying the installation again in Normal Mode?

Have you got enough free RAM (memory) to install the software?
Can you try the same thing on a friends PC to see if it works on theirs.

Try FreeRam XP Pro, despite its' name it works on all Windows OS's.

I have it included in my Startup programs, in XP Pro, even with 2gigs of Ram.
It frees up more RAM, and quicker, than MS (in XP) does.
It would really be of benefit with a PC with 256megs of RAM, IMO.;)

thanks bazza - i actually have freeram xp pro - i dont think the problem is ram, it seems to be something to do with the usb ports recognising an external device. the camera works on a friends pc, i cant figure out why it doesnt work on mine.
i usually have over 100 mb of ram free when installing - not enough?

Your PC would really benefit from another 256megs, or so. Visit www.crucial.com for an on-line scan of your PC. It will provide info about your PC and assist you in choosing additional RAM if you decide to go that way.

It maybe a driver problem in Win ME which you have probably figured out already.:)
6 Google links that might help.

Sorry, I have never even seen a PC with Win ME OS, so I am really lost with further suggestions

@Any ME users@ Please step in.;)
