what is it, who sent it and what do they want from me?

I have had, for two days running, a reminder window pop up. since it's the next thing to a blank window, I've ignored it, but maybe someone can enlighten me.

it says across the top Reminder and the day and date and time.

inside is an icon of an earth globe with an open hand behind it. it says "easy internet sign-up" beside it.

beneath that it says "This is a reminder to check the latest internet offers. would you like to view them now?"

beneath that is three choices, yes, remind me later and no, don't send this again, and then finally there's a "next" button.

there's no way I'm replying to an unsolicited, uninformative, nearly nothing window like this. so if it's MS they've gone stupid again. if it isn't them, or if it is something I don't want and shouldn't click on, how do I get rid of it?

    thanks for your help.

When the popup appears press Fn + PrtSc and save the image. Then post up in this thread using the "Manage Attachments" option.

If that doesn't work for you, you can download this software http://wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter_free.htm and capture the pop up this way. Then post it up in this thread as above.

I downloaded the screencatcher program and used it, albeit niavely, and instead of capturing the reminder screen, it captured my desktop, which showed behind the screen. so I will fiddle with it and see if I can get it to capture the reminder screen.
my keyboard does not have an fn key. it has two key's with the MS four colored square icon on them, and a key that has what looks like a page of writing with an arrow on it. all the standard keys, of course, a numbers pad/10 key sort of thing, no fn key.

think I've caught it, am trying to paste it to the clipboard, no idea where it will end up if/when I succeed, nor how to attach it to a post though I noted your directions...

if I could find it....where will I find the clipboard besides in C drive? I dug through the browse files but could find nothing that hinted of a clipboard. you'd think it would either be a program of it's own self or in the screencatcher program, but not only is it not either, it's not in documents under any sublisting, or anywhere I've checked so far...

Screen Hunter by default saves to your desktop. You should see some files saved on your desktop with the screenhunter logo and the date which you took the screenshot. When you want to post these, simply start your post and scroll down to where it says "Manage Attachments" and follow the directions that pop up in the next attachment box.

Yes, you won;t have a Fn function key - I wa on my laptop at the time of typing that and forgot. To use the Print Screen option of your PC you need to press the SHIFT + Print Scrn key. But it sounds like you have pretty much mastered ScreenHunter anyway.

On my PC, i just hit print screen and open a photo editing program and then paste, crop, and save. (usually to my desktop for easy access)

ok, here goes, not sure what I'm doing or if it will work, but I'll give it a shot. I have two, one is small, a little over 1 kb, the other is over 8kb. I'm sending the larger one, and if that isn't it, I'll send the smaller one...

yup, that's the beast. do you recognise it? and thanks for your guidance, I'm pretty much a dunce with this stuff, but after a few I seem to figure it out...sometimes, anyway! lol...

The next time that thing pops up, go to task manager to see if you can figure out which program is launching it. Or, if you have another program that will list processes, like A-squared HiJack Free or ProcessXP, use them.

If we can identify the program, we can discover if it is malicious, or benign and simply needs to have an option shut off, or whatever.

Do you have a program installed called "Easy Internet"? You can find out in Control Panel > Add-Remove Programs.

Is this an HP or Compaq computer? "Easy Internet Sign Up" seems to be one of their catch phrases.

I did some searching around, and that appears to be the case. I would recommend uninstalling it, but let's get another opinion or two.

I read another solution that suggested this was a hidden item under the Task Scheduler.

yes, I have a compaq, and yes, easy internet signup is in my add-remove box. I don't know where the task manager is-or I've forgot...getting to the old bat stage, lol...it isn't in system tools or hiding in plain sight...that I can find....
thanks for all the replies. it's good to know there's more than one way to do the process. there was a time when all the different ways would confuse me, but now I just take the one that seems to make sense to me and focus on it.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the TaskManager or right click on a blank area of the task bar and select TaskManager from the context menu that appears.

Buzzbee...are you running Windows XP or Vista? It should say on the screen when you are booting your PC up.

Thanks for posting the screenshot...good job. It's a HP thing that comes with a new PC and if you are not using it, it can be removed.

    If you are running XP:

    1. Click on START (bottom left hand corner)
    2. Click on CONTROL PANEL
    3. Double click on Add/Remove Programs
    4. Look for "Easy Internet" or "Online Services". Click once to highlight it, then click the remove button om the right.

    If that doesn;t work then:

    1. Click on START
    2. Hold mouse over "All Programs" and look for "Online Services" listed. If you find it, click once on it and see if you have an "uninstall" option.

If you are running Vista, let me know as it is a different fix.

I'm running XP, Lev, and I'll wait until I'm sharp and focused before I do any removal-I seem to mangle things if I'm not focused, so I'll see about doing it when I'm not tired or distracted. the add-remove system is one I know well, however, I've also learned it's not the best system available. sometimes it doesn't remove things properly and I end up with fragmented files. MG is a great help when that happens.

Rest of you, please back off. Lev has it under control, hence you are creating confusion, not helping. Its best to allow one person who started to finish.
