    Hey,

My cable company just switched us over to digital voice, they replaced my old cabel modem with a "Thouchstone Telephony Modem", and plugged a phone line from a phone jack into the modem.

What does this do for me?

Usually that means your now using some sort of voip for phone service.

You may experience difficulty holding telephone conversations with this system if you both try to talk at once.

False. Been doing it for years.

You now make phone calls over the internet instead of the phone lines. You should also be saving some money as it's normally cheaper than the phone company's rates.

Just curious, do you have 911 service (assuming you had it before)?

Sure, all that makes sense, much appreciated.

I'm more curious about the modem, and why the cable guy ran a phone line from the wall jack into the Phone 1 jack of the modem. What do this?

It turns your voice phones into voip phones.
