Yes, the UK sadly suffers from high tax and duty on gas, currently around 70% of the cost of fuel is tax... so our gas is nearly with conversion to $ about $7 +/- a gallon BUT we do get 2 US $ to the £ so say its in real terms $4 a gal

Here in FNQ, Queensland, Australia we are currently paying around AUD$1.21 per litre.
Multiply by 4.454 (I think) makes it AUD$5.39 per Imperial Gallon approx.

AUD$5.39 works out to be USD$4.42 per Imperial gallon. A USA gallon is less than an Imperial gallon (not sure by how much) so the USD$ price per gallon is probably around USD$4.00 per USA gallon. Very roughly, around GBP £2.25 per Imperial gallon.

What really irks me, is that we have no independent service stations here in Cairns so they all charge the same price. Woolworths and Cairns (Australia's 2 biggest grocery chains) have bought out most of the Gas stations Australia wide, thus no true independent competition.

We also base our prices on the Singapore Crude Oil price, why I don't know, so our prices rarely go down no matter what the USD$ price for oil does.

The Government here, and the ACCC (Pricing commission) are gutless wonders, IMO, and the car owners pay through the nose.

Am I p*ssed off, you betcha.

Wow thats pretty high its $3 here a gallon, but its goes up and down from week to week. Some weeks you can even get it at $2.60 a gallon, but it does go up to almost $4 here too. Just kinda with it would pick a better range of prices.

A 2006 study found that the average person walks about 900 miles a
    year.
Another study found that they drink an average of 22 gallons of beer a year.
That means, on average, we get about 41 miles per gallon."

    Not Bad.

ow many liters make a gallon? We pay 0.85-1.05 Euros/ltr. Of course when Texaco feels like there's an oil crisis price hits 1.17.

It all depends whether you are talking about US gallons, or Imperial gallons.
    2 different converion factors.
Check out the following Google links.

Multiply US gallons by 3.79 to get liters.;)
Multiply Imperial gallons by 4.454 to get litres. :D

Check the links above, to make sure my recollection is correct. Bazza

The gas prices near my house, which is a mile off the IN/IL border, are a whole $0.30 a gallon more expensive than the gas near my school, which is 15 miles away from the border. Prices everywhere around here fluctuate $0.20 in either direction daily. I love those stickers on the pump that explain how the prices are configured before the gas even gets to the station and that the station has no part in determining the price. But of course, the station could fill up once a week, but the gas prices will be changed 3 or 4 times a day... Predetermined prices my arse.

In Northern California we never dropped below $3.25 a gallon for the last 12 weeks.

I have paid up to $3.75.

87 octane regular. Still cheaper at Costco, but man on man it is 15 miles or one gallon each way to get fuel there. Sometimes cheaper to bite the bullet and get $10 in town.
