usb wireless, rt73 and kernel headers

Hi all,

I just installed ubuntu 7.04 feisty and I have dumb question. Does the default desktop installation come with kernel headers installed? I know how to check the kernel version, but how do I check kernel headers?

The reason I'm asking is this is a machine with a usb wireless adapter (linksys wusb54gc) that uses the Ralink rt73 chipset. In the default desktop installation (which uses a 3rd party driver - rt73usb by serialmonkeys) the adapter is recognized by the system, & i can see wireless networks thru network manager (most of the time at 0 strength) but cannot connect to even unencrypted networks. I did a bit of googling - and others have gotten this adapter to work by compiling and installing linux drivers apparently made by ralink themselves (not included in the default ubuntu install). The first step of the tutorials and how-tos I have read say to make sure kernel headers are installed. How do I check?

I did essentially that and it works! I'm posting from my ubuntu wusb54gc right now. I had to drag the computer to the router to use the repositories though.
