I use AVG Free 7.5 for my virus protection. Have tried to reach their forum, but can't get any help , so thought I'd try here. Whenever I start the scan,it seems to be working just fine, but was wondering about the information on the first page.
Under "File" there are three items as follows, User32.dll, Shell32.dll, and ntoskml.exe. Under "result/infection" it states "change". Under Path it states C:\WINDOWS\s... These items just started to appear recently and I'm wondering what, if anything I need to do. I don't understand them and can't find any answer in "help". Thank you in advance for any help you may give me.

    Hi

Those are normal occurances in AVG, especially after you have done some MS updates, this happens as some updates change core kernel components of the OS and AVG is set to check these and alert you, its a warning to a change over an infection ( IMO they could have worded it better ), in other words this is not a harmful warning to you having malware.

hmm. it seems to be finding those as viruses etc. I don't know much about AVG cause i normally use Avast! but the program should have a exceptions option that you can add these files too.

If you actually bothered to read post #2 and the link to AVGs own forum moderators reply, this is NOT malware related but by design, in which AVG is set to check not just for malware my for changed core kernel (generally due to some MS update having updated core files to the OS ) files and in the status box lists them as so in "changed" and not "infected".

If you dont have the answer then dont guess as it makes the forum look bad!

the forums looks fine to me. I don't believe post #2 mentioned the fact that some AV come with an exceptions in the program.

It didnt need to as this issue revolves around AVG and not other AVs...But as you dont use AVG, then how would you know?

Go read the whole post and link again, those files are NOT virii and are listed due to settings in AVG, the exceptions option to remove these from showing is listed in the quote given from Grisoft the makers of AVG.

first of all it's "viral" second i never said that they where harmful, but that it detected them as harmful. the same thing happens when a second scanner is used on a Norton installed system. the second AV sees norton as a virus.

Sorry if in any possible way I have gotten on your bad side, cause it seems like your following me around the forums just to criticize me.

IT is not viral, I dont know how to get through to you that AVG by design highlights these core kernel files as CHANGED not INFECTED or harmfull, the below quote is from Grisofts official forum on this issue, which you didnt read, in the link given earlier.

I have no interest in Norton and what it does as this thread topic is on AVG.... and for the reasons mentioned AVG shows these files as changed on occasion after a Microsoft Update or SFC /scannow, if someone deleted those three files from those listed locations thinking they mayeb virii, then their OS will not BOOT.

I'm not critisising you but your advise which in this case is not applicable to the question.
