Limewire. How dangerous is it?

As stated in step 10 of the How to protect thread, ALL P2P & torrent type downloading is dangerous for your PC's security. You don't know what you are going to get and you don't know if the person you are downloading from has a clean PC. They could be badly infected or worse, they could just be trying to infect unsuspecting users.

Does this mean you will definitely get infected? No!
Does it mean you will not get infected? No! You are on your own.
Will having proper protection in place help? Yes!
Will it guarantee your protection/security? No!

In addition to the above another thing that is "dangerous" is that it is really illegal and people have been prosceuted for doing this.

All that being said, the current versions of Limewire are supposedly no longer directly bundled with malware as they used to be, but who knows what the next version will have.

In reality, in the Malware Forum, we don't condone using any of these programs since they probably are one of the largest contributors to infected users coming here for help. So don't ask us for recommendations on any to use either, since our recommendation is none. Many forums will refuse to help you clean a PC until all prorgams like this are uninstalled.
