When buying more ram is there a brand that i should look for and others to stay away from??

 

Try looking at Newegg.com. They have reviews on most of the stuff they sell. Then you can buy where ever it's cheapest.

 

Always a good bet to buy the same as you already have, unless going for complete change of ram.
Check your motherboard manufacturer,s site for approved/compatable ram.

 

Mixed ram will run at the rate of slowest ram installed.
Check if yours runs on non-ecc, or, is compatable with ecc, again, motherboards manufacturer /manual should give the basics.
Otherwise , if you have a program, like Everest 220, -available from majorgeeks free downloads -it will give all the gen on the ram you have installed, and it's timings/rating.

 

Stick to Brand name stuff that has Lifetime Warranty.
Depending on the PC/MOBO the exact spec's/timmings/voltages of the memory could be very important.

 

While Newegg is Great place to shop and they have great customer service, the reviews I wouldnt have much faith in

Two 256's run faster than one 512 if running at the same megahertz, so get two 512's. Depending on the number of slots you have for RAM and what the systems maximum is. I usually buy Kingston.
