I downloaded some stuff this weekend with bittorrent (actually utorrent) and two of the files have me a bit perplexed. I downloaded a spanish movie (avi) and a subtitle file. The movie was 700mb, the subtitles were under a megabyte. My connection was kind of slow so it took maybe 15hrs overnight to d/l the files. The progress bar went from 0% to 100% in that time. Utorrent said my file was done. I went to watch the video in mplayer classic and nothing happened. I hovered the mouse over the avi and the tooltip said that the file was 700mb. Then I tried to right-click the file and view the properties, but that option was unavailable. Next, I went up a directory and hovered the mouse over the folder that contains the movie, and that tooltip said the size of the folder was 0! I downloaded other stuff alongside the movie (a couple of tv show avis) and they work fine.

I'm new to bittorrent, can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

Sorry but it's kinda against the rules to help on this subject.

    wtf?
First I've heard of that rule. I've seen several BT threads on this forum, and not one mentions anything about BT being taboo.

Not against the rules to host torrent client downloads though, eh?

    A word to the wise

I would stay away from those torrent sites.
You know everyone using it can see your ISP & your IP address?
And the movie people are on there all the time looking to see who's breaking the law?
It can get you in big trouble ;)

Maybe you should try posting here: forum.utorrent.com

They were bad files. The problem was on the uploader's end, not yours. It happens.

I sort of thought that was the case. Thanks for the reply.

Two questions though, did I really download anything?

If I did, did the parts get flushed or are they in a temp file somewhere?

    Thanks again.

If the files downloaded in seconds compared to the hours it usually takes youve probably just downloaded some dud, empty or corrupt files.

The file you wanted will not be anywhere on your computer.

    Id check for spyware+viruses though!

That was the anti-p2p coalition that was feeding you fake (null) data, and probably grabbing your IP address at the same time.
Be more careful of what you download.
