Or at least, will have, very soon!

Wednesday this week, I'm ordering this baby:

    http://web.comhem.se/solange/show/Baby.gif

Considering the pain I've had with my now very old beast, this new baby will make me feel like I'm flying! I have 2GB RAM stored in a drawer somewhere, so I'll be able to upgrade the memory immediately. Shame about the looks of it, that is about the ugliest case I've ever seen, but for what I'm paying for it, it could be pink and do the hokey pokey every 10 minutes and I wouldn't care! :D

For those of you who who are more interested in the glorious interior:

APLUS Case Qubic, Black Midi tower
    Fortron/Source Power Supply ATX 350W
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ 1.9GHz Socket AM2 1MB :drool
    Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 1024MB Kit w/two matched Value Select 512MB
    ECS C51GM-M, nForce410+GeForce 6100, Socket-AM2, m-ATX, LAN, DDR2, PCI-Ex16
    Samsung SpinPoint P120S 250GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM
    Sapphire Radeon X1650PRO 256MB GDDR3, PCI-Express :drool
    Samsung DVD-burner SH-S182D

I can't wait, I'm so giddy! :hyper :hyper :hyper

Never assembled a complete puter before... You might see me crying in the hardware section in a few days! But I think I'll manage! :)

How dare he spam your thread Solange! Good that the post has been removed.
Congrats on the new family member LOL. Now before you even put your hands on it, don't you think it needs a bigger milk bottle? 350W seems low.

Couldn't agree with you more Sailor, how dare some low life Spammer, attack our Swedish Sweetheart:mad :mad :guns :guns And you do bring up a good point, with the Vid card and the rest that 350 Watt PSU is going to be pushed to the limit.............Remember Solange if we catch you singing Swedish Lullabies to "Baby" you might just lose your "Geek" status, and NO Swedish Meatballs till "Baby" gets his Teeth (Okay I promise no more corny Swedish Puns)LOL

Have a great time Solange with your New Puter

Very nice indeed. Now GTA4 is a coming, it is time I think about a new computer.

Nice, Solange . . . that should be a fast system. I envy you - I am itching to build another computer. It's been a good while since I built my system - and the video card wasn't cutting edge when I bought it.

I think that case looks ok - I never worried about that much. I got my case for under 20 bucks on clearance as a "factory blemish" - here it is from an old thread:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35756&d=1148558740

I was more concerned about putting the money into better componants. Heck I am even using (dare I say it) onboard sound, as I couldn't afford a good sound card AND good speakers to go with it. I sacrificed the sound quality in favor of other things.

I also will be standing by with tissues and a fair amount of experience about building computers. My knowledge-sword is at your feet, and I'll gladly help you slay any dragons that rear their ugly heads while you build your baby!

    :)

Oh no no no no, nothing so terrible! :D Unless he gets away...

    http://web.comhem.se/solange/show/Monstercase.jpg

Ta, hun! Knowing myself, there won't be many tears, more kicking and screaming.. :p

Hehehe we truly are geeks when a new computer feels like a new family member! Yeah, I might need to spike that milk at some point. This is a "kit" that a store has picked together, so I can't change anything. But a PSU is easy enough to change later. :)

    Will do! :)

Thanks, Natakel! :) That case of yours looks like a monster from Mars or something! roflmao Might ask for some advice if I get stuck, and tell you all about the pains of labour! ;)

Suppose I could. :D Any colour suggestions?

Good deal on your new baby, Solange. I hope that she doesn't have too many 'hiccups'. ;)

Yeah, you might want to upgrade that P..U. to >450w. I would, and it 'prolly won't make much, if any, difference in cost. Good luck with it all. :cool

Thanks for the heads up! :)

Will do something about the feeding of the baby, thanks! Have identified most pieces, haven't shed a tear yet. Got too tired last night to finish the job, but hoping I'll have the baby up and crawling tonight! :)

No piccies so far, but I can take a screenshot when I've installed it! :p

After a little confusion with the power leads from the naval cord, it is now alive!

Dunno if it is a boy or a girl yet, haven't checked that area properly, right now I'm working on respiration and circulation!

It recognizes most thing in mostly the right places, 10 fingers, 1hdd, 1dvd... we have an argument right now about who is master and who is slave, but that should be sorted soon.

Can't connect the power LED lead. I might have to live without it. I can't put 3 pin holes on 2 pins without something breaking.

So basically, things are going well! :D

You are all invited for the christening of the baby in a few days. Name suggestions are welcome! :D

    You go, girl! :)

I like bubble wrap also . . . what is it with that? confused

Hmmm . . . name suggestions for Solange's new baby . . . I'm thinking. Of course, wether it's a boy or girl makes a big difference. I never thought about it, but I guess I consider my PC a girl - I do tend to dote on it! ;)

  29. mcadam

    mcadam Major Amnesia

Sol, I've had that problem with the LED being a 3 pin connector and you only have 2 pins - sods law unfortunately!

  30. Solange

    Solange Sergeant Major

It is so odd though, ALL the other cables are 2-pin connectors, I wonder why they put a 3-pin on that one, doesn't make sense! Ah well, I'll probably hear when there is power in the comp anyway... :D

Great Idea Natakel, come on you gaggle of Geeks lets name Solange's new baby Computer. I can't come up with anything original right now...........Lets see Solange is Swedish, Blonde, a Teacher, and one of the nicest Geeks around............mmmmmmmmmm going to have to think about this one, after all we can't have Solanges Baby unnamed Right:D

  32. Solange

    Solange Sergeant Major

I'm still installing things, almost done though, will be more or less finished some time tonight, and then I'll use it for a day or so to see if I can determine gender, that might make it easier for you to decide on a name! :D

Everything has been very smooth, but I have to admit, I did get some help. I only have one problem that I would like to sort out, a little hdd problem that I posted about in the hardware section (no tears though... :p ), other than that, everything seems to work fine! :)

    Hi, Solange :)

So, is it a boy-PC or a girl-PC? Do we know yet? :)

I posted some suggestions in the hardware forum ref your issue - hope they help.
That is odd about your power LED lead. Is it a two color type LED? Just curious.
Isn't it cool to build PCs!!

  34. Natakel

    Natakel Guest

Hmmm - this is a looooong shot, (and this assumes the spacing on the lead is standard) but:

I was looking at the front panel buss for your particular motherboard, and have a suggestion you can try if you feel adventurous or it just bugs you that the power LED doesn't work (things like that bug me :mad ).

I see by the diagram that pin 2 is the (+), and pin 4 is the (--). The layout indicates that you might be able to go ahead and plug in the LED lead to those two pins, and just let the third one "hang-over" the buss. I don't know if this will work or not - if you try it and the LED still doesn't light up, just shut it all down and reverse the lead, letting the other end hang over the buss. See if that works. One thing about LEDs, if the polarity is reversed it generally won't hurt anything - it just won't light up. Alot depends on the location of the + slot in the lead's block - and I'd be willing to bet it's the one in the middle.

Like I said - just a thought you could try if you want too. :)

Thank you, dear for looking! :)

I'm afraid it won't work though, because it is the "middle" one that needs to be the "hang-over". They have connected + and - to the 2 outer sockets, and left the centre one not connected to anything... rolleyes

  36. Natakel

    Natakel Guest

Even better!! If there is no wire running to the middle slot, then if you feel frisky you can take a pair of wire clippers (or a razor blade, etc.) and carefully chop the lead block in two - right through the center of the empty middle slot. Now your positive and negative slots are two seperate leads!

Just a thought. I've actually done this before, when putting a replacement motherboard in a proprietary case - used a pair of heavy nail clippers . . . but then I'm a die-hard jury-rigger ;)

Good to see baby 'Meg A'Hets' is doing well. Hope that Meg's first operation goes well. Not too much can go wrong is you're careful with it. (Yuppers, I got impatient, so I made up a silly name for the baby, lol! ;)

@ Musky:- Building computer fun? Welp, depends. I had a coolant leak in one of the lines (mine's custom water cooled), and it did bad things to my 'baby'. Luckily, it didn't 'smoke' anything and all is well, now. <*breaths again!>.
