help windows 2000

my laptop has died on me and i cant get it to do anything i am receving a message saying a file is missing or corrupt and i should insert my windows 2000 disk to repair it but it wont repair !

 

You say your laptop has died on you - do you know if the hard drive is being seen at all? Watch when the computer is turned on and see if you see any details about your hard disk showing up on the screen. If you don't see anything about it, enter setup and check in there to see if your hard disk is being recognised.

A bit more information is needed about what you mean when you say it has died to start giving you more specific help. Post back exactly what happens when you try to start the laptop up without using the CD.

you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows 2000
setup using the original setup floppy or cd-rom.

 

Looks like you might have accidentally deleted part of what you were typing up - could you please post the missing file information again?

 

This error points to a corrupt registry.
You have two choices for a fix. The first choice would be to do a repair install of the OS. Second option is to replace the registry file from a backup. This link will explain how to restore the registry from backup.
